*I received a DRC of this book. This book is wonderful! :) It is a brilliant resource for babies and toddlers who are learning words! The pictures are vivid, and portraying the images through quilting is creative. I think that everyone who has a baby or toddler should get this book, and that it would make a great addition to preschools and daycare centers.
I heard the author, Wendy Chow, talk about the writing of this and her other two books at a recent quilt retreat for my Modern Quilt Guild--the theme of the weekend was books. In addition to Wendy speaking about her journey as an author rather than as a quilter, there was a book quilt block designed by a member that was adorable stitched out, a book themed Bingo (the first Bingo game I ever won, ironically, since I am definitely deep into reading these days), and book recommendations to investigate further. Unfortunately, the printing of this book is not of the quality that allows for an appreciation of just how exquisite these paper pieced blocks are--the author made a quilt block that was then photographed. I bought a handful of them to give as baby presents to accompany a quilt, and they are really very sweet to look at, but in no way highlight the talent of the quilter who made them.
Adorable book with lots of fun pictures. Simple pictures that are well labeled. Colors are clear and bright, organized by theme. Great to introduce basic words to baby and can easily be used to help toddlers learning to speak. Can't wait to give these as Christmas presents!
Cute illustrations indeed. A perfectly good combo of 100 words across Foods, Animals, Things to Wear, Stuff at Home, Transport, and Nature. The book is compact in size with a squishy cover and backing.
