The old saying/cliche is "You can never go home again". My disappointment with this kinda bears this out.
As a little kid, I really enjoyed the author's "Circle of Light" series. After that, I read his "The Wilderness of Four" series, which to be honest I don't remember anything about. Now, the sequel to that series is apparently "The Windameir Circle".
I gave this book 100 pages, and then bailed out, mostly due to the glacial pacing and rather thin plot hook(s). "Bad mountain people are attacking, and good farmer folks are panicking! Oh noes!"
Two old knights roll into town, give a magic sword to The Token Focal Point Teenage Male Character for reasons unknown, and then peace out (again, for reasons unknown). If the main hook here is "Wow, those old guys gave a super-duper uber-rare sword to some random ass farmboy. He must be 'The Destined One' to save the realm from evil, amirte?" blah blah blah ..., well, the author is going to have work a lot harder than that to draw me in with that tired old trope.
I won't re-read the "Circle of Light" series, as I don't want to ruin fond childhood memories of that series. I have zero recollection of the "The Wilderness of Four" series, so can't say if it is worthwhile or not. But this book -- the first of four in the series -- honestly did nothing for me. :/
