Welcome to the renowned Shoei Academy, a school which prides itself on educating young men from respected families from kindgarten all the way through senior high school. When new teacher Reiji Kurashina transfers to the academy right in the middle of the school year, he proves to be the star all of the senior high boys have been waiting for But who has a shot at being the special someone to this cool and beautiful teacher?
1st. read: 10/26/09 I had been waiting for this manga's release, it seems forever, and I finally have it in my grasp. I was having a BAD day and I thought the mood would ruin my enjoyment of it but as it turns out it turned my mood around. While it might be labeled yaoi (and it might be for future volumes), this volume is very light boy's love and that's because it does have a 'romantic moment' between 2 of the characters at the end of this volume.
I love Kurashina-sensei too! He is just so sweet and funny and a total pushover...his naivete is endearing when his students use it to their advantage-all for the good of the school, of course. But although he always gets reeled in and appears caustic and short tempered he is very gentle and kind-hearted.
Asano is such a hottie. He comes across as a very mature and composed young man, and so it seems throughout the story except when you get short glimpses of his youth and you realize he is actually a teenager.
This is a lighthearted comedic manga, although it does have its tender moments of teacher/student interactions; but I gave it 5 stars just simply because it gave me an hour of pure joy. It made me laugh at the antics of the characters but most especially Kurashina sensei.
Don't be deceived by Reiji Kurashina Sensei's seemingly soft and kind appearance. He could get irritated pretty soon and lashing out with his sharp tongue! ;D But then again, being a teacher in boys high school, keeping close contact with the school's Event Organization Committe, and having his old mate Yusuke as fellow teacher could be very trying indeed! ^^ Don't forget Matsumoto san, the cat!!
Kurashina's my favorite type of character-- suit, glasses, high strung, high temper, badass when the chips are down, and his heart's always in the right place.
Plus he teaches at an all boys school with a full set of bishie archetypes. Bonus.
