Make no mistake: Egypt's Dazzling Sun: Amenhotep III & His World is an excellent resource and, a book so thick and heavy it could be turned to a defensive weapon if necessary. It was great, seeing the sheer mass of artefacts associated with Amenhotep III collected and provided with detailed commentary. However, this was not a book that I necessarily enjoyed reading – most of the actual text is more concerned with the artwork and architecture associated with this time, and less about the life and reign of Amenhotep III. The commentary on several of the exhibited pieces are primarily about the make-up of the item, rather than what they reveal about the time period. While I do understand the limitations of publishing, especially such a volume that would appeal to relatively few readers, I also found that most of the photographs in this volume were printed as black-and-white on plain paper, which resulted in a loss of detail. Some of the photos were too small, which was particularly annoying when the text told you to look at certain details that were just impossible to see in the photograph provided.
