She looked at herself in sorrow that it was so; that her love for him had died a slow, painful death. Let other women envy her the facade he presented to the world. Only she knew that there was nothingness behind it; no loving or giving, just nothingness.

I started this book on a whim. I had zero knowledge about the plot. I was not even familiar with the author. I had no idea what I was getting into. But first couple of pages and I was into it in no time. It is a short and quick read. Writing style is very coherent. There is a steady rhythm to the narration which could keep you hooked on the pages. It's not a whodunnit. So there is no mystery from that angle. In fact, no mind-blowing twists and turns in the entire story. Rather, it is about whether the culprit is going to be caught or not, the social impact of the crime, the compelling character analysis of the guilty party and the emotional struggle and conflict of interest of the main protagonist which has been done quite masterfully. No doubt, I was pleasantly surprised. However, there are a few dialogues in the narrative that didn't age well. But other than that, an effortlessly enjoyable read.

A thirteen-year-old girl disappears ---is found dead (brutally killed and raped). You know from the first third of the book who the killer is and the real question is, will he be found out? Had a perfected the perfect murder? And, he doesn’t stop after his apparent success. Doris Miles Disney is just astounding!!!, to me. She didn’t disappoint me, was a fast, quick read and just GREAT! I guess what truly amazes me is that so far, NONE of her mysteries are the same and/or even follow the same patterns –what a truly creative writer!

I was surprised at the lack of plot twist in the story line. The book reminded me of one of the old made for TV mysteries. One I expected to happen did happen.
