Sound concepts but took the carrot analogy past the point of exhaustion.

Meh.
It's a story 'How to reward people in your company well' to get the best outcomes. It shows a good key to keep amazing employees to stay within the company.
But the book is super boring.

A very short, yet powerful book about how to motivate people and keep them happy so that they stay productive and engaged. My only complaint is the suggestion that a watch is an appropriate reward. A watch? I mean, come on. This isn't 1950.
Notes:
As a manager, always assume everyone is having a hard day.
It's the hunger for recognition that drives people to leave for other jobs where they will feel needed and appreciated.
A manager's most important responsibility is to motivate and energize the people who work for them.
Feeling appreciated and feeling "in" on things are two important motivators.
People accept praise and direction significantly better from their immediate supervisor than from a senior leader who they may see a couple of times a month.
To have the intended effect, a reward's value should be an appropriate symbol of the employee's effort and its outcome.
Various Reward Ideas:
Volunteer to do your employee's least favorite task.
Say thank you. (And mean it.)
Hand out a "traveling" award, like a rubber chicken.
Host a water gun fight.
Buy your employee their favorite beverage.
Create a yearbook of the year's accomplishments.
Create a "praise" bulletin board for customer compliments.
Create a recognition box of different low-cost prizes or trinkets and let your employees choose an item from it.
Keys for giving effective praise = Be timely, be specific, be sincere, be prepared.
Set clear, specific goals.
You must not only develop values and goals, but you have to live them.

The little book is certainly well done. Excellent cover, type set and layout. It was written over 20 years ago but still has some things to offer.
1. It’s a simple read.
2. It reminds leaders to be thankful and show appreciation
3. I enjoyed the tips and ideas on how to encourage people
4. The story about the space station was interesting and did a good job of proving points.
I have several small books I keep in places where I may ag e a few minutes here and there to get in some reading. I could have read it in one day but it made it to my read as I could stack.

This book is okay if you've never read anything about motivating employees and rewarding. The authors make good points, especially for someone who finds it difficult or maybe even awkward to reward someone. It can be in small things. Overall, I found there wasn't much news in it, I didn't like the story (it's a fable, but a bit off 'normal office life') and I think it's a very North-American book. I know some of their recommendations or suggestions won't work in the Netherlands.

The lesson is simple. When you are managing others, you are partially responsible for their morale. Ways you can boost that morale? Through praise, kind words, happy notes, laughter, chocolate, treats, field trips, social outings, gatherings, humor, empathy, listening, improving work conditions, working hard, etc.

Của cho không bằng cách cho. Muốn người khác làm việc hết mình thì bản thân nhà lãnh đạo cần biết khen thưởng đúng lúc, đúng chỗ và đúng quà, quan tâm, để ý, chăm sóc nhân viên nhiều hơn. Thay vì khen một câu sáo rỗng như: "Anh làm giỏi lắm!" thì có thể khen là "Anh làm rất tốt trong việc thuyết phục khách hàng ở lại với chúng ta. Anh biết đấy, đây kp là việc dễ dàng!"

I didn't learn anything new from this book. It may great for someone who works for a bad employer, fortunately, recognition is a great part of where I work and live. It is a quick read though.

A succinct but powerful tool kit for leaders in retaining talents. It's so true that people leave the company because of leaders, not the company. Thus, smart leaders should learn this know-how to keep talents loyal & boost their performance. Highly recommend for all leaders!
