Horizons was our assigned text for first and second semester French at the community college where I've been attempting to learn le français, and I must say that for someone who had no prior experience studying French, this book was immensely helpful. Each chapter is divided into four short sections with vocabulary to learn, exercises to complete, brief conversations to listen to on their website using the included access card. There is also a video series called Les Stagiaires with short three or four minute episodes that correspond to different chapters in the book; they're a great way to practice hearing French being spoken in conversations. Several different verb tenses and moods are also covered, including the present, passé composé, imperfect, future, conditional, subjunctive and imperative.

To summarize, I'll say that Horizons is a great text for beginning French learners. I still occasionally peruse it to review all of the material I'd previously studied and try to keep it fresh in my mind. It's far better than "The French Experience", which I was assigned for a subsequent French class that had me missing Horizons so much. Horizons, tu me manques tellement!
