The living legend celebrates his 20-year career in words and pictures, with contributions from Sir Alex Ferguson, Sir Bobby Charlton, Paul Scholes, Bryan Robson, and other Manchester United greats From signing with Sir Alex Ferguson at the age of 14 to winning the Treble in 1999, Ryan Giggs' sports career has been extraordinary. Here, he recalls the glorious memories of his record-breaking career at Manchester United, as well as highlights from his international career with Wales. Giggsy's words bring 20 seasons of pictures to life, as the most decorated player in English football history relives 11 Premier League wins, four FA Cup successes, three League Cup winner's medals, and two Champions League victories, and remembers the people who have helped to make him a true sporting great.
yan Joseph Giggs OBE (born Ryan Joseph Wilson on 29 November 1973) is a Welsh footballer who has played for Manchester United for the entirety of his club career to-date. He established himself as a left-winger during the 1990s and continued in this position well into the 2000s, but more recently playing in a deeper playmaking role.
Giggs holds a host of football records, including that of being the most decorated player in English football history. On 16 May 2009, he became the first footballer to collect 11 top division English league title medals. Giggs was the first player in history to win two consecutive PFA Young Player of the Year awards (1992 and 1993) and is the only player to have played and scored in every single season of the Premier League since its inception.
Giggs has had a long-lasting domestic and continental career and is the first player in UEFA Champions League history to have scored in 12 successive seasons, on top of being elected into the PFA Team of the Century in 2007,the English Premier League Team of the Decade, in 2003, as well as the FA Cup Team of the Century. Giggs is also the only United player to have played in all 11 Premier League winning teams and all three League Cup winning teams. At the 2008 UEFA Champions League Final, held on 21 May 2008, Giggs surpassed Sir Bobby Charlton's record of 758 appearances for Manchester United to become the club's all-time leader in appearances.
At international level, Giggs played for the Welsh national team prior to his retirement from international football on 2 June 2007, and was once the youngest player to ever represent his country. As well as the many honours Giggs has received within football such as being named in the Football League 100 Legends, he was appointed an OBE in the Queen's 2007 Birthday Honours List, and was inducted into the English Football Hall of Fame in 2005, for his services to English Football.
Lots of Giggsy's recollections of the highs and lows of a huge chunk of his playing career. As my favorite footballer, I enjoyed reading all his insights.
Ryan Giggs: My Life, My Story by Ryan Giggs. 297 pages
The book tells about Ryan Giggs by the man himself. It tells of the early days, dreams, and achievements.
The time and place could not be changed because this book is a true story written by Ryan Giggs.
Ryan Giggs is the main character in the book since it is written about his life.
It is very clear through this book that Ryan Giggs has a true love for the game and the great player he is. He doesn't talk too much about his youth but he does mention his early playing days until he turned fourteen and signed with Sir Alex Fergusen at Manchester United. He has been a huge part of United's success. He talked about the joy he had of winning eleven Premier league titles, four FA Cups and two Champions League winner Medals. He also mentions the love he had playing for the Wales National team. There is no question he is the most decorated English soccer player. He talks of the champions league. The experience I liked most was when he was getting subbed on really late in the game and the game ended up going into penalties with Chelsea. He talked about the long walk up to the penalty spot and the joy he had when he made his PK. But tension was still on until United finally one. What really impressed me is his humbleness of saying how he is not the best PK taker and how Paul Scholes deserved the start in the Final. He also talks about how his family is one of his biggest priorities and the love he has for them.
The book was pretty good. It gave me an in depth look on the life of Ryan Giggs. It showed me the kind of guy he is as a person and not just the person I see on the T.V.
Some quotes I liked are,"The FA Cup has been won, the double is secure and all is well with the world for Eric and myself."(page 57) The other one I liked is,"I always said that I wanted to end up with eleven championship medals because that's the number I wear on my back."(page 219).
Work your hardest, be confident, be humble and things will work out for the best.
The book could be for anyone but mainly for someone with a little knowledge of soccer. It mentions a lot of tournaments and soccer stuff but he explains them very well.
The book is set apart from other books because it shows what the life of a professional player is like from the person himself and the joy and emotions that are put in with it.
Giggsy has always been my favorite red devil and it was absolutely essential for me to read his story specially when even sir Alex Ferguson had shared his views!!! An absolute must read for every Man U fan!!! A peek into ryan giggs and his legendary career
A remarkable football player, one of the very best and is still playing age 40. That is an achievement of how to look after your body. If you like a book with plenty of photos this is one for you.
