Stories of ghostly happenings have been circulating at the Hotel del Coronado for many years, all thought to be related to the death of a beautiful young woman, Kate Morgan, who stayed at the hotel in November 1892. Hotel guests, employees, and even paranormal researchers have attested to some supernatural occurrences at The Del. Witnesses report flickering lights, televisions that turn on and off by themselves, dramatic shifts in room temperatures, odd scents, unexplained voices, the sound of strange footsteps, mysterious breezes which cause curtains to billow when windows are closed, and objects which move of their own accord; still others claim to have seen the ghost of Kate Morgan herself. Not great writing. Not a particularly captivating story.
However, if you are interested in the history of the Hotel Del Coronado or a little local San Diego folklore, it's a quick little read! I picked it up a day or so ago for a Halloweeny read and finished it off in a couple days.
Terrible book; interesting story. In the hands of a competent moviemaker, could even be a dramatic film. But this disjointed, poorly written, incomprehensible book won’t do the job. Still, who doesn’t love a good ghost story, even one as mangled as this one.
Not very well written and the book is getting dated, but as a fan of The Del I enjoyed the story and the amount of research that Mr. May put into writing his narrative.
Normally, I would not review this book. However, it must be noted that, even though it is an entertaining glimpse into a mystery that happened at an historical landmark, readers should follow up with some light research of their own.
Read it on a family visit to the Hotel Del, home of Kate Morgan. Loved it, even if the author does seem like a looney toon. Turkey dinner with the ghost lady???
