Sir Clements Robert Markham KCB FRS was an English geographer, explorer and writer. He was secretary of the Royal Geographical Society (RGS) between 1863 and 1888, and later served as the Society's president for a further 12 years. In the latter capacity he was mainly responsible for organising the National Antarctic Expedition of 1901 - 04, and for launching the polar career of Robert Falcon Scott.

Was hoping for more information about their interactions with the indigenous peoples. While there was some it was a lot of boat talk too.

so Columbus essentially said, “Hey you guys: how you’re living is bullshit. I’ma give y’all a God to worship and a European Queen to be subjected under. Now put on some clothes & gimme all your gold for these glass beads.”

This journal is fascinating. I especially enjoy the almost mutiny two days before they reach land, the two sets of books (a secret one with how far they're really going, and one for the crew that says they're not going as far), and the constant fruitless searching for gold.

Read this book and see if it sounds to you as if Columbus was "kidnapping" natives.
