Joanna Cole, who also wrote under the pseudonym B. J. Barnet, was an author of children’s books who teaches science.
She is most famous as the author of The Magic School Bus series of children's books. Joanna Cole wrote over 250 books ranging from her first book Cockroach to her famous series Magic School Bus.
Cole was born in Newark, New Jersey, and grew up in nearby East Orange. She loved science as a child, and had a teacher she says was a little like Ms. Frizzle. She attended the University of Massachusetts and Indiana University before graduating from the City College of New York with a B.A. in psychology. After some graduate education courses, she spent a year as a librarian in a Brooklyn elementary school. Cole subsequently became a letters correspondent at Newsweek, and then a senior editor for Doubleday Books for Young Readers.
This is a cute little introduction to natural selection and evolution for younger readers. The basic science hasn't changed in a while, so even though the book was published in the 80s, the book is still relevant. The pictures are cute and informative. This is an incredibly complex topic, but the basics are covered and even young readers should be able to get something out of this-especially if the time is spent looking at the pictures in detail.
We all evolve just like plants and animals. The start of evolvement and how it ended up being what it is today. The information is still relevant with the original publishing in the 80's.The illustrations are cute with each step of evolvement to present day. It introduces the process of evolution for the young learners. The life development on earth is based on the evidence from the rock fossils. It is fun for all ages to learn about evolution.
I'm not sure if some of the information in this book is outdated based on recent developments in knowledge, but regardless, it's a good basic introduction to the concept of evolution.
