Fantastic collection of historical fiction. Definitely written for young people, but enjoyable at any age. Lots of good local references to places that have changed considerably and not entirely for the better since. Many good historical references. Fair warning: in an age when everything is distilled down to a politically and socially acceptable slurry it is uncommon to find any work of writing that isn’t “corrected” for mass consumption. This work has not been edited in such a way, at least the edition I have. Nothing is written in a manner meant to provoke, but the terms and tropes are historically accurate and may offend some modern sensibilities.
