I loved this book as a child and as I was re-reading it today I realized the doctor looks like my oncologist! Makes me like her that much more now.

Farley Goes to the Doctor
Farley has a doctor’s checkup. He takes his teddy bear along for emotional support. The Dr gives him a good checkup and the teddy bear gets one too.

This was disturbing and I’ll tell you why. It was nice for the nurse and the doctor to do everything to the teddy bear they did to Farley. I don’t see too many doctor’s humoring a kid that way. Maybe, maybe not. Depends. And for some reason when it talked about having a train in the waiting room, it kinda sorta put me in the mind of the doctor’s office I use to go to as a kid. I think his name was Latona. I have a vague image of the building in my head. But what bothered me was I have NEVER EVER heard of having to strip down to your underwear for a checkup. NAAAH! That’s a lawsuit waiting to happen. Do they make you undress when surgery or a procedure is done? YES! But even then, you have on a robe. Your behind might be in the wind but. A checkup? I think I’d be that parent that’s like uh you can’t do what you have to do with his clothes ON? I don’t think I trust my son standing there in his drawers all exposed like that. NOPE! Not gonna happen!

3.5 stars (3/10 hearts). A good read to introduce kids to doctors checkups. It even includes shots…

…although I always scorned the stereotypical “it only hurts for a second” medical lie. IT DOESN’T, and maybe I wouldn’t still be so scared of needles if I hadn’t been lied to as a kid and made to expect something less painful…
