When Nexus and his buddy Dave journey to Dave's home planet in search of long-lost friends, they find that things have changed for the worse since their last the once-thriving world has been ravaged by pollution and famine that seem to be spreading from a mysterious factory. Is this merely another case of industry run amuck, or do ancient Thune legends of a planet-devouring creature somehow figure into the picture?
Though the three issues of Alien Justice are somewhat standalone, Baron does a good job of linking them together and also using them to continue the great saga of Nexus, a multithreaded story that had already run 80 issues!
The first issue with Dave is a nice focus on the Thune. The latter two issues with Nexus hunting down rogue nexi is a bit repetitive (both between the two issues and with earlier plotlines about Next Nexi), but it's still exciting. Getting to learn more about the Merk is also quite nice
With the Dark Horse series, Nexus really devoted itself to universe-building and mythology-exploring. Those aspects had always been part of the series, of course, but it seems less concerned with exploring humanity concept of morality. Alien Justice is Nexus as a widescreen action film, with a mad villain who was once the hero's benefactor. But it works - it's fun, it's big and explosive, and Baron still comes up with creative uses for fusionkasting. And Steve Rude excels here - amazing work!
