I picked this up for a cabin trip that I just booked in that area. I am very happy with the layout. I cannot comment to any accuracy on maps or descriptions. I will try to remember to come back and comment after the trip.
This book lists 22-day hikes you can do throughout the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. This ranges from going up high into the mountains to exploring streams and creeks.
I also like that it has trails that go to historic sites and former farms that were there before the national park was built.
Since this is a large area I would make sure to have a larger map or Google Maps in finding trailheads.
Some of the hikes are longer so I would thoroughly read each one to make sure you are up to the task.
Then it sounds like some trails lead to steep sections so I would also take that into consideration.
The author also incorporates additional hikes or even ones that allow for camping.
He does not that reservations need to be made way in advance for many.
This is a helpful guide if you want to spend some time exploring the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
Best Easy Day Hikes Great Smokey Mountains National Park by Randy Johnson provides 22 different day hikes for readers of all abilities and interests. They are organized by location (NW, NE, SW, SE) and also by the target group for each type (best for waterfalls, geology lovers, children, great views, etc...). A general description of the area and details about parking, facilities, visitor centers, public transportation, etc are given along with trail distance, approximate hiking time, difficulty, trail surface, a map and some other helpful information. The book is small enough to easily fit in a pack or a large pocket (maybe 4" by 6") to come along on the trip.
The information seems helpful and comprehensive. I'm reading this in preparation of a trip to GSMNP and will add a post script once the trip is completed.
