Miranda Fairchild has always blended into the background. But she still dreams of finding her fairy-tale prince…. At first glance, her new boss-dangerously charismatic Rafe Knighton-does not fit the bill.Rafe is beginning to see that there's more to Miranda than meets the eye. Will he give this stubborn Cinderella the happy ending she deserves?
After a haphazard career spent working and travelling around the world, I stumbled into romance writing as a way to fund a PhD. My first book, A Sweeter Prejudice, came out in 1991, and since then I've written a further 59 books, some of which have won awards in the US and the UK. I live in York, a historic city in the north of England, and waste the best part of my days planning trips away or on Facebook and Twitter, both of which mean that I end up writing late into the night. As well as romance, I write 'time slips' as Pamela Hartshorne, and am a freelance project editor and occasional writing tutor.
In May 2013 I will publishing the Jessica Hart Vintage Collection of five of my early books from the 90s. For news of forthcoming books and exclusive offers, do sign up for my newsletter: email jessica@jessicahart.co.uk or come and find me on Facebook.
Okay book. Not great, but okay. Not sure why it's called Cinderella. Our heroine has 2 sisters, not step, and they aren't all that mean to her. Her mother left when she was young and her father died leaving them in debt. The only thing she seems to have like the Cinderella of fable is that she is a hard worker and rather plain. Our hero, or Prince Charming? has recently inherited his father's company and wants to live down his playboy reputation. He hires our heroine to plan a ball so he can meet some sophisticated ladies in his bid to become more respectable. Our heroine agrees so she can earn enough money to settle down in a nice little house by the beach she inherited from her grandmother. Cute little book. Not a lot happens but sometimes that's what you want for an afternoon read. Just a sweet little romance.
This was a re-read and I upgraded it from 3 stars to 4 stars. I really like this author. Her characters are generally very likeable and normal. In other words they aren't perfect and do some of the same stupid things that normal people do in relationships.
This lacked the emotional gut-punch experience I've had with other Hart romances, but it's still a strong, pleasant read. Heroine trying to claw her way back after the family department store goes belly up on her watch. She's working as a temp at the hero's family business and gets roped into helping him plan a gala and find a wife. He's trying to live down a playboy reputation, and now having "grown up," he figures it's time to settle down. Workplace romance meets fairy tale meets fake relationship all rolled into one.
I gave this a B- on All About Romance, so I'd give it 3.5 stars here. It travels down paths many romance readers have traveled before, but it's a very sweet book and I liked it. Here's what I wrote at AAR:
Though scoffed at by those who find it uncomfortably retro, the fantasy of being plucked from the crowd by the rich, handsome prince and transformed into a beautiful princess resonates with many. When everyday life is a bit too much of a struggle, it's hard to resist the allure of being swept away from it. This happens for Miranda Fairchild in Cinderella's Wedding Wish when she takes a temp job at the Knighton Group and catches the notice of CEO Rafe Knighton.
This is a pretty standard Mills and Boon story of a girl and her boss falling in love despite the odds, and yet there's a sweetness about it that I really liked. Yes, it's a little bit cliched, but at the same time Hart manages to tell a story where you genuinely want the characters to have a happy ending, instead of being annoyed by their cluelessness when it comes to each other.
This book was very sweet. It was predictable and cliche but I enjoyed it never the less. I really liked the hero and heroine. It was a bit of a breathe of fresh that the heroine was not your cliche perfect drop dead gorgeous female that are in most romance books. Jessica Hart writes very nice romance stories that are easy and quick to read.
I listened to this as an audio book. It was nice and charming and, although quite predictable - it was a lovely read. I enjoyed the characters - the feisty female lead and the smug and humourous male. A new twist on the usual Mills & Boon type romance.
It follows a predictable path but I'd argue that's the point--see: book title--also it's unabashedly so my kind of path thus zero complaints. I was down for this book, and how.
Good rep of the Cinderella trope without being a retread, with winks and tweaks on the given. The secondary romance & character given it made a nice departure from the trope norm.
I much enjoyed and took my time with every page. The heroine is a Yes For Me with determination and dignity but not too little self-regard or so worthy she's dreadful. The hero has something of a redemption arc, mostly is charming and learns things and admits faults when it's necessary.
The leads are so well suited. That too is on every page. It takes them a while to realize it (they know it way earlier than they're willing/able to admit), but once they do, there's a lovely HEA-ending full of promise on happy swoons. They each have good character development, strengths and weaknesses, complementary issues and aids.
I wasn't completely sold on the love scene. It felt a little against Miranda's whole going until then. But it wasn't a clanger or unwelcome. I did like how throughout Rafe was just-dang-interested in Miranda and that only burned brighter as their story unfolded. There's a lot of head-hopping but it's folded into the style without being that distracting; it's very midyears old skool in some ways. In this one, that didn't detract for me.
Also, dogs. And a shameless love for them. Plus a cranky old granny with a marshmallow center. Both those are great on their own, and lent no small shades of Betty, for me, which added to the overall appeal. I'll look for more by Hart based on this book.
It was an "ok" book, but I felt like there were a lot of gaps in the story. I felt like it was missing entire parts of the story, that could have told so much more.
Lame, stupid, ridiculous... Who lets an ex get away with manipulating her ex husband? And he had no backbone either. A struggle to try and read. Boring!!
A Noiva Mais Linda do Mundo Sonho Secreto. Jessica Hart. H. Special 21. 2010.
A sweet combination of a few classic plots, it's very well done and a good story all by itself. I like the characters, though Miranda occasionally comes off as a teenage fantasy. But overall I liked it.
A fun little read. Quick and easy. The 'plan' came way too late in the story and a lot of time was wasted on clothing options and descriptions. But if you are looking for fluff it will do.
