There are moments in the lives of all of us when we catch glimpses of a life--our life--that is infinitely beyond the life we are now living. We realise that we are living below our possibilities. We long for the realisation of the life that we feel should be.
Instinctively we perceive that there are within us powers and forces that we are making but inadequate use of, and others that we are scarcely using at all. Practical metaphysics, a more simplified and concrete psychology, well-known laws of mental and spiritual science, confirm us in this conclusion.
Our own William James, he who so splendidly related psychology, philosophy, and even religion, to life in a supreme degree, honoured his calling and did a tremendous service for all mankind, when he so clearly developed the fact that we have within us powers and forces that we are making all too little use of--that we have within us great reservoirs of power that we have as yet scarcely tapped.
The men and the women who are awake to these inner helps--these directing, moulding, and sustaining powers and forces that belong to the realm of mind and spirit--are never to be found among those who Is life worth the living? For them life has been multiplied two, ten, a hundred fold.
It is not ordinarily because we are not interested in these things, for instinctively we feel them of value; and furthermore our observations and experiences confirm us in this thought. The pressing cares of the everyday life--in the great bulk of cases, the bread and butter problem of life, which is after all the problem of ninety-nine out of every hundred--all seem to conspire to keep us from giving the time and attention to them that we feel we should give them. But we lose thereby tremendous helps to the daily living.
Ralph Waldo Trine was a philosopher, mystic, teacher and author of many books, and was one of the early mentors of the New Thought Movement. His writings had a great influence on many of his contemporaries including Ernest Holmes, founder of Religious Science. He was a true pioneer in the area of life-transforming thought. No other New Thought author has sold more books than he, his writings reaching far beyond New Thought circles out to the general public, which has bought and read Trine's books without ever knowing that they were New Thought.
He began his writing career in his early 30s. He was much influenced by the writings of Fitche, Emerson and the Scottish scientist/evangelist, Henry Drummond, his "What All the World's A-Seeking" expanding on a number of the themes covered in Drummond's inspirational classic, "The Greatest Thing in the World." His remarkable seminal book, "In Tune with the Infinite" was launched in 1897 and went on to sell over 2 million copies, and has stood the test of time for over a century. It was read by such luminaries as Queen Victoria, Janet Gaynor and Henry Ford. It is interesting that Henry Ford, pioneer of mass produced automobiles, attributed his success directly to having read "In Tune with the Infinite." After reading the book, Ford ordered it on mass, and distributed copies freely to high profile industrialists. It's a true mark of how powerful the book was and still is!
In its pages we find perennial truths that have been restated in many other forms in recent years, though perhaps never so clearly. By recognizing the power of our thoughts and by harmonizing our own with the Divine will, we will attract perfect peace, health, love, prosperity and success. A number of chapters from "In Tune with the Infinite" can be read on-line in the book "This Mystical Life of Ours" listed below.
This book by Mr.Trine is basically a treatise on what we might call 'the inner life expressed in the outer life'. He was deeply committed to the teaching of Jesus that; "the kingdom of God is within you," and that there are 'Higher Powers of Mind and Spirit.' Because of this fact he seeks to emphasize that personal salvation is not to be the prime focus of the believers concern, but rather, how to express the nature of the kingdom in our acts and thoughts in the many affairs of the world around us. He says "to strike the right balance in life is one of the supreme essentials of all successful living." He relates the spiritual life within to the problems and concerns of the many happenings of the time in which he was living. A very spiritually enlightened man dealing with the importance of not hiding our knowledge of truth under a bushel but showing it to the world in our everyday living.
This book was written back during the First World War, at first on would say why read a book over 100 years old; but many of gems and lessons have been gleaned and learned from old text.
There are timeless nuggets of thought and wisdom contained in the book. In some sections it’s as he is speaking to the current realities of the world in which we live in.
The underlying theme here is Christianity. The teachings and principals of Jesus, that is the work of the author here. While he gets off track with political zeal, in some of the later chapters, where you are scratching your head, trying to connect the dots , push beyond it and look at the book in its totality, and you will benefit from some wise counsel.
Another classic on new age teaching about prosperity. Basically the same with different examples. The core is that the divine power already dwell in every of us, we just need to utilize this power. Thus the cultivation of our mind is important. Many of the secrets inherited from the bible, with different interpretations of course.
Excerpts from the book - There are moments in the lives of all of us when we catch glimpses of a life--our life--that is infinitely beyond the life we are now living. We realize that we are living below our possibilities. We long for the realization of the life that we feel should be. Instinctively we perceive that there are within us powers and forces that we are making but inadequate use of, and others that we are scarcely using at all ... We make great error to regard man as merely a duality - mind and body. Man is trinity - soul, mind and body ... The life force of the soul is Spirit .... Failure to realize and keep n constant communion with our Source is what causes fears, forebodings, worry, inharmony, conflict ...
