From the medieval town center to Gaudi's modernistic flights of fancy, Barcelona is bustling with stylish boulevards, exquisite architecture, and Spain's hottest nightlife. The Rough Guide is your key to the Catalan capital, showplace of Miro, Dali, and Picasso. You'll find the latest on post-Olympic developments the city's museums, and daytrips to Montserrat and the Catalan countryside.
I've been a pro travel writer for over 30 years, writing Rough Guides and other stuff, and living in places from Sicily to New Zealand. You might even have had one of my guidebooks along for the ride in your travel bag - in which case, happy to have helped!
I also blog at www.julestoldme.com, sharing travel stories, travel-writing tips, videos and inspiring destinations - see you there, and happy travels.
As I usually find with the Rough Guide series, this wasn't as aesthetically-pleasing as most other guidebooks, seriously lacking in pretty, colourful pictures etc, but once you get past that you realise that this means there is more room for detailed information, and you don't need pictures anyway if you are going to see the real thing!
One word of caution though, some of the information, particularly prices, are already out of date. I actually found that some of the admission costs for attractions had tripled!
A clear and comprehensive guide to the city of Barcelona -- since I haven't actually traveled there yet, I can't say how accurate or helpful the information is, but it certainly gave me a feeling for the neighborhoods and surrounding region, and a whole list of things I'd love to do someday. Anyone want to buy me a ticket? Not a lot of pictures, but who needs them when we have Google image search?
