Ella Rayette hadn't felt the touch of fine clothes or known any security since the night her father died. Now, all grown up and struggling to survive in the hells of London's gambling district, all of Ella's best efforts have come down to this: a cruel beating at the hands of her employer, surrounded by the jeering patrons she'd once served. Or, at least, it would have come to that, if not for the angel who saved her. He whisked her out of Hell, took her home in a fine carriage, gave her two pounds to help keep back the wolf of starvation and even offered her a job caring for his invalid sister. A job! Had she known he might do that, she’d never have stolen his waistwatch. Ella watched him ride away with the timepiece burning a hole in her pocket. It was a struggle not to feel badly about the theft but she needed the money far more than her angel. And really, unless she took him up on the promise of that job, what were the chances she'd ever see him again anyway? You’ll love this new spanking romance from Maren Smith! For adults only.
Fortunate enough to live with my Daddy Dom, I am a Little, coffee fanatic, dog and cat mom, was an administrator for six years at my local BDSM dungeon, and have since become a Utah resident and submissive to the love of my life. An International and USA Bestselling Author several times over, I have penned more than 160 novels, novellas and short stories, and am the author of the Masters of the Castle and Daddy’s Little series.
I should add to my shelves “Unlikeable Male Leading Character.” Man this story is horrendous.
Lately, I haven’t felt any real urges to write reviews. Maybe I just find the lack of right words compelling me to do so. But this story has my hackles raised. This a Victorian Romance story and this is anything romantic and barely accurate to be considered Victorian.
DNF this and I tried. Now don’t get me wrong, I enjoy a story that had spanking in it IF it is done right and appropriately. I don’t care for stories that use spankings in such a way as it could be look upon as an assault. This story has the so called asshat striking her out of anger and emotional fury. He is so abusive in this act he LITERALLY leaves bruising. How romantic? He states in the beginning that spanking and disciplining is a rarity but only done on occasion where it’s warranted. But at ever turn this man is assaulting her. Just because he strikes her with an open palm instead of a closed one or by using the cane he threatened her with, doesn’t make it any less abusive.
Now, I get that sometimes this h is often acting in a juvenile manor, but the situation is far from acceptable. I could list everything that enrages me about this story, but I find myself too annoyed to bother with this story any longer. However, I did highlight everything up to the point I stopped reading in my Notes and Highlights that you can see for yourself. Warning, it’s all spoil s so be aware of that before you look.
Overall, I hate that I paid money for this and this is one of the few books I don’t pause before rating it a one star. But this is not a romantic book at all and it angers me to think that it would be labeled as such.
Oh, and one last thing. The other cover used for this book, the one with a woman’s face serenely looking off while she lays her head on her hand, it utter a joke and Bullcacka. There is nothing in that cover to remotely think that.
