John C. Hull is a Professor of Derivatives and Risk Management at the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. He is both a very well respected researcher in the academic field of quantitative finance (see for example the Hull-White model), and also the author of (among other works) two books on financial derivatives that have become market practitioners' standard texts: "Options, Futures, and Other Derivatives" and "Fundamentals of Futures and Options Markets". In 1999, he was awarded the Financial Engineer of the Year Award, by the International Association of Financial Engineers.
6 years ago i took financial risk management masters class in RSM and this book was the main textbook for the course. even at the time, having no business experience, i was surprised to realize how superficial the quantitative models are and how little effort is made to link risks to underlying financial and business economics drivers
This is my first book into risk management and it provided a good primer. I believe it is well written and meant to ease into complicated stuffs. I particularly like business snapshots giving example of concepts explained.
High level treatment of the topics covered and not at sufficient depth. Good introductory textbook for most topics in the space for a practitioner. Not handy for anyone interested in the math or theory.
This is most comprehensive and relevant book on market for an enterprise risk management..I have read the various editions and this one has been updated with ESG ,model risk machine learning ,regulation and other emerging technologies and risks..
