Op die toneel: Stories, reise, stemme

Rate this book

This is truly a fantastic read! As a teacher and social scientist, if I could create a curriculum around this book, I would also include the short stories of Herman Charles Bosman. The two books complement each other seamlessly in unearthing the Afrikaner identity within a time span of 70 years. My only reservation about Synman's book is how well it would translate into English? I think many of funniest parts of his stories would be lost! My favorite story was "Operasie Smokeshell," especially the beginning part which spoke about the 'Dankie-Tannies' and the 'pislelies.' I thought the most reflection chapter was 'Vorderingsverslag.' As stated in my opening, a great read and Synman, in my humble opinion, remains one of the best authors of short stories! Baie dankie Mnr.
