Bill, a very bored dog who resists taking part in his busy owner's many activities, has a major attitude change after his unexpected visit to a planet populated by bored aliens.
L. Pichon says that when she was little, she loved to draw, and her mom said she was very good at making a mess (this is still true today). She kept drawing, went to art school, became a designer and art director at Jive Records, and began to publish children’s books. After its publication in the U.K., The Brilliant World of Tom Gates won several prestigious awards, including the Roald Dahl Funny Prize, the Waterstone’s Children’s Book Prize, and the Blue Peter Book Award. L. Pichon lives in Brighton, England, with her family.
Bill is always bored. His owner, Mrs. Pickles tries to coax him into doing things, but Bill doesn't budge. One day, the wind blows Bill up into the air and he lands on a strange planet. He is really excited and wants to explore but all the aliens do is sit and bored. Bill learns a lesson about entertaining himself and appreciating Mrs. Pickles.
Not the book for me...found it to be boring :). Illustrations are basic. Several of the pages are overloaded with text, makes the flow seem unbalanced. Also, every page has a different layout/format, which confused my five-year-old.
This is a good book. I would read this book and ask the students to either write or have them tell the class something they do when they are bored. I would say it can be make believe or real.
This dog isn't bored, he's a moody pain-in-the-ass teenager that just doesn't want to do anything and acts lethargic. Nonetheless, the point of the book gets across.
