Jean-Louis Ferrier taught at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts Decoratifs in Paris and was an Associate Professor at Columbia University's Paris Program. He was also an art critic for the renowned weekly news magazine, Le Point, consistently striving to bring an encyclopaedic knowledge and mature reflection on art to the widest possible public.
A comprehensive volume of not only art, but with some mention of literature, movies, theatre and music from 1900 until the 1970s. The book was filled with thousands of small articles about art events, biographical data on artists, and writings by the artists themselves. There were only small reproductions, no full page color plates.
