I liked the methodical approach of this book. Chang-Babaian devotes a substantial portion of the text to explaining how to care for the delicate eyelid area, including how to prime the area for her techniques. For example, she goes into detail about choosing the right concealer and mascara to suit the condition of one's skin or eyelashes, subjects I'd never given any thought to before. I'd always assumed that some mascaras were better than others, of course, but I'd never thought about how choosing a "heavier" mascara might cause fine eyelashes to lose their curl. She also discusses various means of amplifying one's natural lashes, giving her opinion on lash medications, eyelash extensions, and so on. In the end, her general recommendation seems to be for false lashes, as the most practical, economical, and the least likely to cause any side effects. I can't say that false lashes are part of my look, but I'd be more willing to consider their occasional use now that I have her detailed advice on how to wear and apply them. The author also includes copious information on choosing the right brushes and tools, as well as on how to shape and groom the brows. My natural brows seemed to fit her guidelines well, so I mostly skipped that section, but it does seem to give appropriate advice to women who need to shape their brows.

Her guidance on flattering applications for various eye shapes was quite helpful. Her categories were specific, and I found she had one that described my eyes perfectly--naturally high eyebrows but with a smaller lid fold. I appreciated her inclusion of a number of Asian models. It irritates me how often guides of this sort focus on techniques for a more typical heavy-lidded Western eye. Even though I'm Caucasian, I don't feel those techniques suit my almond shaped eyes. The variety of models was nice. Her advice on choosing colors to complement the hue of the iris was fairly basic. She primarily recommended bronzes and plums for blue eyes like mine, but I would have enjoyed advice on how to wear less conventional colors too. However, her suggestion of gray and silver shadows to flatter light eyes has been spot-on. I'm getting a lot more compliments on my eyes since adding them to my repertoire. She also gives details about how to apply and choose colors that suit one's skin tones. Since I'm very fair, it was useful to have this additional information on how to choose colors that won't overwhelm me.

She gave instructions on a variety of makeup looks. Not all of them suit me, but I like that she included both classic and unconventional looks. Her advice on how to understate eyes while wearing red lipstick is good, and she also shows a number of clever techniques to modify the shape of the eye. Overall, this is a helpful and easy to use guidebook. I think any woman who wears makeup regularly should think about updating her application techniques from time to time, lest she end up wearing her high school look forever, and this book, though slim, is comprehensive and gives good advice.

This weekend my niece Munchie and I were getting ready to take her graduation photos. She has made her invitation style and wants to add photos on the inside to show how she has grown through the years. She has picked her young and middle photos and has asked that soon we go take some "now" photos for her to add to the invitations.

I am so proud of her and want to help her in any way I can, so this weekend we played with styles of eye makeup to see what she wanted to do. We were lucky enough to be able to borrow a great book from our friend Lynette @ Crazed Mind. Style Eyes by Taylor Chang-Babaian not only has beautiful photos of perfect eye makeup but a breakdown of how you can gets these looks for yourself. With the step by step instructions it was truly easy to accomplish model perfect makeup on Munchie.

This book was so much fun and it even has a beauty school in the front of it to tell you how to properly care for your skin and eyes, how to fix fine lines and dark circles, even how to prevent eye infections. There is a lot of wonderful info on different types of concealers, how to shape your brows even how the way you put your eyeliner on can change the shape of your eyes.
We had so much fun trying some of the different looks. We went for some of the more dramatic looks because they aren't something you could wear everyday where we live. What fun!

Munchie picked out her look for the pictures and it was great because none of the looks took very long to do. If you just want to have some fun with your makeup or you have a daughter coming into the makeup age I would highly recommend this book. With all of the information on care and cleanup of the eye area and safety tips to prevent infections as well as all the different step by step instructions for eye looks this would be a great teaching aide.

Level 3 makeup artist student as previously mentioned in other reviews it’s hard to get your hands on make-up/beauty books.
I hate giving harsh ratings but for me it was purely down to the age of the book, the trends are really out-dated. However, for a make-up amateur this would be a tool that you could pick up techniques and use that to slowly build up to newer trends, this does have some good information inside and it’s really clear step-by-step with photos. It just didn’t make the cut for me but I believe this would help someone new and passionate about learning.

College Girl's Other Mother at Rants & Raves was kind enough to share her thoughts with me. I have a book called Style Eyes that has the most amazing eye makeup in it. I love it....but of course it has been snatched by several. Currently Other Mother has it. But she did write me about it...and you. Here is what she found out!

You won't be able to find a better book up on how to apply eye make-up. It gives you the step by step process of identifying each part of your eye right up to how create dramatic looks. I wish this book was around in 1999 when I first started experimenting with eye make-up. I wouldn't have wasted so much time. My favorite part of the book is the simple explanation on how to apply false eyelashes. I might have to give it a try. :-)

This book was just okay to me. I liked the talk of color theory, but thought some of the tutorials were poorly instructed. Still fairly good though, all in all.
