Would you trap yourself in a deadly universe to save your loved ones?
All Spencer Newton wants is to fit in. He’s always been the nerdy kid, cursed with not only being a genius, but also with ADHD. He’s a magnet for harassment. And it seems impossible to avoid torment when the worst perpetrator isn't human, but a manipulative interdimensional being called The Molecule Thief.
As conflict between dimensions rise, the only solution the U.S. military sees is nuclear. That is, until this mysterious Molecule Thief offers Spencer an alternative to annihilation. But Spencer isn’t sure if the Molecule Thief is real or all in his head. Can Spencer trust himself to save the world, or will his faith in the Molecule Thief cost him everyone he loves?

Clever, sci-fi thriller with mind-bending twists and nuanced, flawed yet lovable characters. I loved the ADHD rep on the page. A fast-paced and fun read!
Edge of your seat thrill ride that grabs you by the scruff of the neck and never let's go. This is sci-fi on an adrenaline shot. Great writing and a great weekend read.
Forgive the strange comparison, but this reminded me of a mash-up between Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children and The Rosie Project. The main character (and plot) hinges on the main characters neurodivergence. He's a savant and he knows it. I didn't find him super-likeable and he didn't inspire any sympathy, so this book wasn't one of my faves. I did find it very quick paced and action-packed. Like any time-shifting stories, it was easy to get lost if you weren't paying close attention throughout.
⚠️ Content: lots of physical violence, firearms, death; moderate language use throughout
🏳️🌈 Representation: main character as well as most characters are white, cis, straight. references to mental illness and neurodivergence.
🎁 Gift to: young adult readers okay with the gore/violence/language and need a lot of action.
I liked some of the characters in this book, but the plot degenerated in the last part of the story to a multi-universe/dimension/etc. reality that was difficult to follow and so confusing that the reader just drops out of caring about the characters that were the strength of the book. In addition, the writer insisted on dragging out that portion of the story way beyond what was justified and lost me.
This is the first in a series, but I doubt I'll bother to try the followups.
Heinberg would enjoy this book! Love the premise. Enjoyed the development. One question remains THA??? No spoilers but hopefully there's a dictionary or translator in our future/past
