This earth-friendly series is made from 98% post consumer recycled materials and printed with eco friendly inks. Each hardcover book's simple, nonfiction content inspires children to love and respect the natural world and the parent spread at the back of each book shows how easy it is to practice (and teach!) earth-friendly habits right at home. From dusty deserts to snowy mountain peaks, animals live in very different places all around the world. Children will love exploring all the incredible lands that animals call home and then learning more about different habitats with the parent page activities.
So cute! I love the illustration style. There is a charming, quirky quality to the animals (hard to describe, but so winsome!) yet they also do a good job of portraying the animals. The rhymes flow fairly well and it would make a nice book for wee ones, especially if they already like animals and the book itself (made of recycled materials) has sturdier pages, like a non-glossy board book. Slightly older kids could have fun with some of the projects in the back, and learning additional information (also back matter) about the animals and conservation.
This isn't a five-star book for me because in a few cases I felt that the locations of the animals were a bit vague and also the ending of the story is quite abrupt. But, really, it's very charming. I saw a few other books from the series at a bookstore and they all look good.
What I liked about this book is that shows various landscapes and climates that animals live in. It also has a good mix of well-known and lesser-known animals. And, the rhymes actually rhyme! :) I didn't stumble over the pacing like I do in a lot of rhyming books.
It was kind of odd not having any real beginning or end, but for what the book was, I enjoyed it and think it serves its purpose well.
This is one of two “green start” books I got for a new baby to be. I guess he’ll have to grow into him, or lend them to his older brother first because, while these are board books, they’re marked as being for ages 3-6.
I liked this one much better then the book One Tree. (Author/book links are not working right now!) Both books have the same publisher and illustrator but different writers.
This one I really liked. The text consists of a poem, which doesn’t really have a beginning, middle or end, but shows several animals each in nine different habitats. While not a story, the poem is catchy and it is fun to find the animals as they are mentioned.
At the end of the book is a section for adults or older children which gives ways to help preserve nature, suggests craft projects, and gives a additional facts about three animals mentioned in the book. The whole aim is preservation of animals and their habitats.
The book is printed on 98% post-consumer recycled materials and use only eco-friendly inks. These books do have a recycled look about them, but I find it attractive.
"...Pluta uses some animals that are likely to be familiar to your child, such as elephants, monkeys, and alligators, but she also includes some others that not as many kids may know: red pandas, marmots, and manatees. Some animals she provides more specific names for as well, such as "horned owl," rather than simply "owl." The illustrations are incredibly precious. Phillips creates images that are fun and sure to please both child and adult alike, not only for this book, but in all her work - check out her website and/or blog to see what I mean..."

Simple story about animals and their habitats or the region of the world they live. Nothing new in the story but I love that the book is environmentally friendly. Ideal for toddlers.
