I needed a weather refresher before reading another weather forecasting book and this was a good refresher. I think it is a little outdated based on the discussion of climate change and computer forecasting. I say not well suited to e-book because there are a lot of illustrations that are important to explanations and it is very difficult to keep track of what illustrations go with what text. I was reading on my phone. A tablet or laptop may not have this problem.
I just love little Golden Guides! They are full of detailed information on the subject with great illustrations. I believe some would consider these underrated youth books, but I find them very informative for layman in whatever topic you choose. I have 'Stars' and 'Rocks' guides from my youth that were well worn, but into my 50's I'm coming back to them. This 'Weather' book was very in-depth to all weather occurrences. From air movements on this planet to what causes warm/cold fronts, high/low pressure systems to even clouds classifications. I recently finished a Peterson field guide on the 'Atmosphere' and it didn't have half of what this little book covered! I give it four stars due only to the fact that these new Golden Guides were renewed in 1985. So, when it covered weather satellites, it prompted my own study as we are well beyond what was mentioned in the book!
For the parts of the book that deal with clouds and regular weather dynamics the book is fine. Anything to do with equipment of climate is out of date. There is now irrefutable evidence that the amount of greenhouse gasses in the environment goes far beyond any historic fluctuations. You can study ice corwe samples from antarctica, for one thing.
Don't let the small size fool you. This book is packed full of information on weather. I found it at times hard to read - several times, a lot of information is packed in a few paragraphs and requires re-reading. The later sections on how to forecast seem outdated and unnecessary.
