About the author

Wolf Erlbruch (born in Wuppertal, Germany) was an award-winning illustrator and writer of children's books. He combined various techniques for the artwork in his books, including cutting and pasting, drawing, and painting. His style was sometimes surrealist and was widely copied inside and outside Germany, and some of his story books discuss adult topics such as death and the meaning of life. They have won many awards, including the Deutscher Jugendliteraturpreis in 1993 and 2003, and the Hans Christian Andersen Award for illustration in 2006.

Nog steeds fan van dit prentenboek van Erlbruch, ik vind Meneer en Mevrouw Meijer zo aandoenlijk samen 🥰

Mevrouw Meijer maakt zich zorgen. Het ene moment over een knoop aan haar winterjas, die eraf dreigde te gaan. Het andere moment over haar zelfgebakken cake. Zou ze niet toch te weinig rozijnen genomen hebben? En dan waren het weer een paar haren op het hoofd van meneer Meijer, die zo vreemd overeind stonden... Gelukkig is er ook een meneer Meijer die zich nooit zorgen maakt. En een merel.

Upon rereading, an extra star. Besides the beautiful illustrations, this is truly a pretty book; the overburdened mind of Ms. Meyer, so neurotic and anxious, poor thing, little by little given way to a new way of living, so light she flies away. Her husband, always accepting, always rooting for her, is a highlight.

Come tutti i racconti di Erlbruch, è delizioso e le illustrazioni sono molto tenere. Non regge però il confronto con gli altri, ai quali si continua a ripensare anche dopo averli chiusi (cosa che, invece, qui non accade).

Hikâyedeki Frau Meier'de kendimi görür gibi oldum başta ve çok güldüm. Tümden işi, gücü, kuruntuları bir kenara bırakıp mahallenin karatavuklarından birini de benim evlat edinesim geldi. Erlbruch'un keyifli çizgisi ve kısa hikâyesi yine çok güzel.
