All you could imagine knowing about the title char
Having heard her name and title many times, I realized I knew little of this historic character. So, I chose to read this book. It is long and laborious reading as well as written by an obviously sympathetic author. However, it provides a useful grounding for the woman and the lives and politics of her time.
Excellently researched, remained true to its main storyline, but best of all is the (English) author's side comments to her 1850s Brittish audience on the goings on of the Italians at the French Court. Loved every minute of it.
I have finished Volume I and heading in to Volume II. This is a good book to read while in France. Its very detailed, as memoirs are, and presents an interesting look at the time period.
