I got this book when I first started quilting about a decade ago. I still refer to it from time to time to refresh my memory on the large number of helpful tips and techniques. In particular, since I had a disaster relating to me thinking that I knew how to put in a binding correctly, I make sure to follow the instructions in that section very carefully!
Rotary Magic by Nancy Johnson-Srebro, Rodale Press, 1998. This book intensively covers rotary cutting, cutting all shapes, piecing basics and special techniques that she feels every quilter should learn, pressing, borders...
I love this book and wish I owned it. It is out-of-print, so the prices on Amazon are OUTRAGEOUS!! Luckily the library owns it. I joked to Thomas that I might have to find out how much the library would charge me if I "lost" it. He was not amused. I don't think he trusts me...:)
Don't be fooled by the title, this is one of the best all around quilting books out there. If you want precise instructions and you want the best methods, look no further. Nancy is also a National Quilt judge, so she knows what she is talking about.
There are lots of good ideas explained along with great illustrations that elaborate on the written instructions. The instructions are written for both right & left handed people. The projects are basic, which encourages quilters to try something new.
