Johnstone “[A] rousing, two-fisted saga of the growing American frontier.”—Publishers Weekly on Eyes of Eagles “There’s plenty of gunplay and fast-paced action as this old-time hero proves again that a steady eye and quick reflexes are the keys to survival on the Western frontier.”—Curled Up with a Good Book on Dead Before Sundown

An old enemy does his best to kill Preacher with his gang of thuds. Preacher was floating down the river when he came within a whisker of being shot and killed. The would-be killers escape but as you know Preacher never forgets. As the story goes on Preacher saves some friends from death but may die in this attack. Preacher takes serious injuries in the attack including a glancing shot to his head. The action continues with a final showdown made uglier when Indians attack the bad guys and the group Preach is leading. Preacher learns who is behind all of the killing and heads to St. Louis, with a new friend to settle the score.
Another great story by the Johnstones. In this one, Preacher gets involved with an Englishman and his sister but does not realize that they hate the Americans in the west; they wanted the land for Britain. They furnish rifles to the Indians, hoping for help in that quarter; and Preacher nearly is done in before he realizes his mistake. A close call for sure. I enjoy these stories as much as the cowboy movie matinees that we attended in the 40's.
Another great Preacher story. The only bad thing about a story about Preacher is: when you get started reading, you get so into the story, you don’t want to stop. Love Preacher and reading his stories. Thanks Jo
This was another great one in the Preacher realm. I admit it... I love Preacher, and the wilder he gets, the better. I'm not sure which Johnstone wrote this book but it was a really good time. On to the next adventure with Preacher, Horse and Dog!
As always Preacher is caring when innocent people stuggles to make a living but ruthless when it comes to hurting innocent people. Another of Preacher's eventful adventure.
Another saga of the western frontier filled with action, thrills, and spills. For a minute I thought Preacher had found a replacement for Jenny, but it was not to be.
This continuing story envelopes the reader. The outcome is not sure on whether good or evil will prevail with more than the lives of mere people at stake.
Preacher has a STALKER unknown to him. The settlement will be attacked by Blackfeet Indians who have been supplied free guns by English spies who are trying to start an Indian uprising so that England can retake the land west of the Big Muddy. Preacher is taken by the beauty of english spy, Laura Mallory who he thought had been taken captive with her brother Clyde Mallory said by the Blackfeet. Poor Preacher had his suspicion about the whole incident. Lots of treachery, backstabbing, spies, kidnapping and possible rapes. What a cornucopia of events; we almost Dog and PREACHER, the men sent from St. Louis captured Preacher and were planning on burning him alive by tossing him into a pit of fire...hot
Solid, well crafted novel of the early days of the west. An old enemy of Preacher's is intent on killing him and someone has armed the Blackfeet in an effort to wipe out Corliss and Hart's trading post.
