Born and raised in the granite state of New Hampshire, Troy is a lifelong and avid reader of comic books and novels (mostly in the fantasy, sci-fi and adventure/thriller genres). The ongoing serial storytelling methods of comic books and television has always fascinated him and provided inspiration for his writing. He’s always had a love of creating and world building and dreams of someday seeing his creations expressed across all media: books, comic books, movies, TV and even toys.
When not writing, Troy can be found outside hiking, kayaking or out back at the bonfire with beer in hand. Don’t expect to bother him during football season, especially when the Patriots are playing.
After recently discovering Pavi Proczko, it was a no brainer to jump on this book! I felt like this was more of a "G" rated litRPG, than I had suspected, well... I do tend to forget that fighting with swords, and battle axes maybe a bit much for some middle readers, so it might be leaning towards "PG" status... But that's not a bad thing it just surprised me! All the players, who survived, find themselves trapped in this game, after the game crashes while playing. Stuck in limbo for 2 years, without any hope of succor. Hall's been playing the game since beta testing, receives a final notice from the game Dev. That message pretty much said "Sorry you're stuck, and cesť la vie!" Instead of freaking out, Hall decides to just play the game, since the game is now his "reality"... Hall, finds himself demoted essentially, back to the entry level status of a new gamer! As Hall had always played as a spear-wielding Skirmisher, he decided that would be the right choice of character, and he knew the half-elf avatar the best. And Hall left the bad news behind. He accidently bumps into another player Roxhard, who's avatar is a tanky Dwarf... they team-up and go off a questing, but little do they know how much the game has changed in the 2 years it had been "off line". Hall and Roxhard never looked back once they got going! I immediately became sucked into the game and Hall's storied life.
Bk2 Silverpeak
Little did Hall know that going to Silverpeak to purchase some much-needed supplies would end up in a quest chain. A chain that would change Skara Brae forever.
Bk3 Axestorm
What started out as a whim to possibly get a airship at the Dwarven hold of Axestorm ended up as a quest chain for Roxhard as he searches for his dwarven heritage. It actually seems that Sky Realms Online might be tied closer to reality than one would've thought. But by following the Roxhard's quest it leads to an accidental meeting with Iron and his group of players. And lines have been drawn!
Bk4 Greenfire
After the merchant handed Hall a treasure map. Hall's itch for adventure soon overwhelmed his need to settle down and take care of Skara Brae. So grab on to Greenfire and hang on to your seat as this action-driven story takes you away.
Bk5 Warfang
Hall finds himself fighting Redcaps in order to save Skara Brae, dungeon diving for the sheer pleasure of it. And then he ends up helping Lee follow a quest chain, stopping the corruption of a forest in Warfang Hill, in order to stop the demons and the Desmarik Republic invasion.
Bk6 Onyxgate
At the start knowing that this was the final book, I couldn't figure out how Troy Osgood could wrap up everything as it seemed like the story ARC was too big to fit! But he did. The books conclusion was utterly fantastic giving us an action-packed fanale and wow even the 👊 punch in the epilogue was well timed!
So yeah grab this audio set, and enjoy as Pavi Proczko delivers an absodamnlutely amazing action-packed series.
Greyhold. Grayhold begins as other litRPG have; something drastic happens, the VR pods fizzle, and the in-game player’s conscience is uploaded to the virtual world. Not all players survive the fizzle. The ones that do revert to level one with starting equipment. Okay so far, we’ve been here before. The saving grace of this volume is the intelligence of the MC, Sam Dohall, age 30 IRL, an avid player of Sky Realms Online for many years. Hall is a half-elf Skirmisher. His realization and acceptance of the situation give the story a more rational flavor. The thought process of comparing the gaming world to this new reality is a welcome addition and adds a nice slant to the tale. As expected, we follow Hall as he discovers the differences in this world he finds himself in, his progress as he levels up, and the other players he encounters. Rockshard, the dwarf, is an excellent companion, adding a younger personality to the tale. Lee, the druid, is quite interesting, hard to determine whether she was a player or NPC. Then again, as Hall decided, does it matter? Silverpeak. Our intrepid adventures complete a couple of outstanding quests but now they must journey to Eddin to deal with Lee’s mission. The corrupted grove was near a town called Skarra Brae, which ultimately came into the possession of Hall. Hall always wanted an in-game place to call his own but never expected it to be an entire town. Needing supplies and a decent rest, our battered crew heads for Silver Peak. One confusing thing I noticed was that this group of experienced adventures did not carry several different types of weapons. Each player could, or should have a slashing, bludgeoning, and ranged weapon in their inventory, utilizing whatever the situation demands. Granted, it may not be their preferred weapon, but swords do not work on skeletons or golems. For the most part, the mechanics of the game were pretty accurate, but there were a couple of things that stood out. In some (most?) MMORPGs, a boss monster will activate some form of damage or health effect at fifty percent and/or twenty-five percent health. Not so much here. Yes, yes I know I’m being picky but the better the storyteller is, the more irregularities stick out. Sort of a backhanded compliment, eh? I anxiously anticipate Hall’s budding love interest, but he appears to be in no hurry. After entering Silver Peak our hapless heroes find themselves in the middle of a guild war between two thief guilds. There is much ado about politics and the running of the city, including a multi-threaded quest, but it is still a pretty good story. Axestorm. Sage Bastion was the cause of Hall and the NPCs being trapped in Sky Realms. They were his Champions versus the Deamon Fearda. The full realization is yet to come. Hall and the Druid Lee have become a couple. Hall recruiting specialists to Skarra Brea; Jack the administrator, and Duncan the carpenter. The need for an airship sent Hall to Axestorm Hall in Huntley to meet the BattleForge Master Ship Builders. Master Corbin, his sons Bordon, Nordon, Cordon, and his daughter Gertie came along as crew of the new airship Ridgerunner. Rockshard is quested to verify his ancestry in the Stonefire Clan. Many excellent battles with various enemies took place, but the experience was low compared to the pre-glitch game. Hall still felt that the NPCs were the same as PCs since the glitch, other NPCs considered them fodder. Greenfire. Bastion and the Fearda, known as The Dark Man discuss their plans for the Champions. Hall contemplates how to grow Skarra Brea and what it was to become. More NPCs and PCs come to live at Skarra Brea. Hall in the Ridgerunner heads to SilverPeak Keep to recruit more artisans. A Smith that leads to a quest in the ThunderGrawl Mountains. An Alchemist, an Explorer Guild member, and a Cartographer under contract with their guilds. Hall retrieves a treasure map that leads to the GreeFire Depths dungeon quest. Arriving at the location, they encounter a new race; the Desmarie Republic, demonic slave traders. Finding two airships at the location, they must eliminate the warriors and free the captured slaves. Warfang. Bastion was worried. The Champions would come soon. Would they approve of what he had done? Hall returned to Skarre Brae. Loot from the Red Cap cave and two confiscated Desmaric ships in tow. Two dungeons had been found on the property. The loot had fit Hall and the others perfectly, making Hall nervous. The Twisted Gale had arrived for a celebration. Visitors arrived; Timberhearth Greencloak Rangers offered a quest to help them eliminate the Expedition Lumber Company and the Desmaric allies they allied with. Quest accepted, and they traveled by airship to the Timberhearth Keep, meeting with their Council. Multiple quests ensued to defeat the Expedition Lumber Co., the Desmaric, and the demons. Hall’sgroup and six Rangers set off. First to the Druid Grove, then to Warfang Hill where they believed the corruption originated. Onyxgate. Bastion the Sage manipulated the contract he had made with Fearda. Fearda complained about the magical weapons given to Hall and the others. Hall was one of the Champions, Rockshard another. Hall's group with the Rangers was regaining many of the captured villages, killing Expedition forces and the demons. Traven Port was next, the Expedition Lumber Co. base. Returning to Skarre Brea, Hall was now able to read the Masterwork Map he had looted earlier. The map would lead him to Bastion the Sage’s tower. Additional players; PCs arrived at the tower for Bastion’s meeting. Bastion explained everything about the contract between himself and Fearda, the Dark Man to get power from Baylor the One-Eyed and save the world via the Champions. They discovered the world of Hancarth was real! The glitch had transported the players from Earth to Hancarth to save it from Baylor. The NPCs of Hancarth were natives of the world. One hundred players had been transported of which only twenty-five remained alive. Now Bastion revealed his plan to destroy the Desmaric Republic and Baylor the One-Eyed. What confuses me is, where are the other Champions? At the tower meeting, Bastion said twenty-five Champions remained. Hall’s group was composed of only fifteen or so. First, there was an island to take containing a portal that would lead to Baylor. Once there, the contest would begin; a dungeon. Would they survive? The narrator Pavi Proczko is simply awesome. So many voices, and such a wonderful resonance to his voice.
It's like a very watered down adventure with some D&D mechanics. Oh btw it appears the author uses the term scry it identity items instead of how it's actually used. The pace of the story is rushed to a point it's a continuous rush. I get the feeling the author is not familiar with litrpg or mmo style writing. It's an interesting concept but the material could be thought out better and the flow of the story set at a better pace giving time for stuff like proper usage of stuff like cooking and gathering
I’m so glad they put this into a box set. This is one of the first LitRPG books I ever read and it is why I still read them. I fell in love with the characters and the plot made sense to me so I started reading other stuff by the author. He’s really good. I got this on Audible too because it’s 85 hours long and the narrator is perfect for this. When I read the books, I hear his voice in my head.
I recommend this for anyone who likes a great story.
I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked this series. Hall and company are great. There was a new twist to this. I did tend to skim now and then but that is more to do with my quirks. I don’t need detailed information that most books have. I am more get to the point type of person. lol My advice it is a worth wild read.
This narrative presents a comprehensive storyline culminating in a satisfactory conclusion, while also addressing inquiries that could solely be elucidated by the author.
I thought the book was well written & the story engaging, although the characters could have leveled a bit more quickly and done some truly awesome stuff… it was a great listen and i really enjoyed it… would sooo recommend
