Conflicts in Urban and Regional Development

Creating the Countryside: The Politics of Rural and Environmental Discourse

Rate this book
From the abuse of the Amazon rain forest to how Vermont has been marketed as the ideal rural place, this title looks at what the countryside is, and should be. It examines the underlying tendencies and subsequent policies that separate country from city, developed land from wilderness, and human activity from natural processes.

What makes the countryside? Who made, should make, and continue to make it? How does it differ from nature? It depend on who you ask....this book contains thought provoking essays on sustainable development and environmental policy relating to real problems and real places. Including an excellent essay on Vermont as well. :-)
