One of the not so many cases when a book is very underrated, comparing to the subsequently movie based on it.
There are the same characters, intrigue and places, but all of them pale to the living saga described in one of the most successful serials ever. So, if you have a few hours and some nostalgia...
PS: It looks like the serial was much more successful in East Europe than in other countries, the US included.

„— Aici J.R. Ewing! spuse el, ridicând vocea. Ce pot face pentru dumneavoastră?
Cum nu răspunse nimeni, se duse să-și ia paharul. Era gol. Era pe punctul de a-și turna altul, când un sunet distinct pătrunse din biroul celălalt. La naiba, era cineva acolo. Traversând cu pași mari covorul plușat, împinse de ușă, să o deschidă. Ca din zbor, văzu o figură.
— Ce faci aici? întrebă el supărat.
Singurul răspuns fură două împușcături al căror zgomot reverberă în birourile goale.
J.R. se simți de parcă o locomotivă cu aburi ar fi trecut peste mijlocul lui, împărțindu-l în două, trântindu-l pe o parte, într-o agonie și teroare împietrită. Se simți doborât la pământ, lumea aspirându-l printr-un tunel amortizat, din care nicio scăpare nu era posibilă.
Până când nu a mai fost decât tăcere fără de sfârșit și noapte eternă.”

February 13, 2013I read this when I was a teenager and Dallas was in its prime -- my favorite show! It was so much racier than Judy Blume's Forever, but I got to read it at about the same time...likely because my mother wasn't aware of the content!
