John Westermann is a retired Long Island police officer and the author of five crime novels, the most notable being EXIT WOUNDS, which was adapted for the screen by Warner Bros, starring Steven Seagal as Orin Boyd. John Westermann's short story "Trauma Bells Are Ringing," won the 1999 Blaggard Award from NewMystery Magazine. Two other short stories will be included in upcoming Otto Penzler anthologies. Mr. Westermann lives in Setauket, New York, is married and the father of two. He is at work on another novel.

A pretty generic police procedural. And not even that interesting. Having a "dumb jock" teamed with a "tough blonde" makes for pretty generic, and un likable characters. The two partners basically just flounder around and only 'solve' the case through pure accident in the last 50 pages of the book.
It tries to be gritty and 'noir' with dirty cops, and a hooker with a heart of gold,but everyone just comes of as so cliche.
I won't likely be reading any more in this series, or by this author.

Fairly good police procedural, reminded me of some of Charles Willeford's books in that there was some sarcastic dialog. Good dialog, well drawn characters, good local color. Only issue I had with it was that the story was not very compelling and it kind of losses some steam by the end.
