To everybody else, Jordan King is a selfless philanthropistand most-eligible bachelor, but newspaper columnistKate Brogan has inside information that he is a homewrecker—handsome and full of false promises. Just like herphilandering father. Of course, she lets 'Mr. Irresistible'know there is nothing he can do to change her mind.
Oh, how Jordan King loves a good challenge. Besides,he can't let Kate's scathing newspaper article gounanswered, not when destroying his reputation alsojeopardizes his camp for underprivileged kids.
Setting the record straight is only one of the reasonsJordan has for getting the incredibly sexy Kate Broganin a canoe for five days on the river.—
New Zealander Karina Bliss has written a biography for a rock star, swapped identities with her twin, raised three orphaned children with her ex husband, worn a cow costume to a Bachelor and Spinster ball, considered marriage for the sake of a baby, and been mayor of a small town.
Oh wait, that’s her characters.
Outside her imagination, she’s always been a professional writer, first as a travel journalist and then as a romance author. Her deeply held convictions include: love conquers all; yoga pants are daywear; and what a woman really wants is a man who cleans. Unfortunately, she does not live with one, (nor indeed has raised one). Please buy her books so she can pay for one.
She has also swum with sharks. They were very small. Babies, really. But still count.
Career highlights have included being the first Australasian to win a Golden Heart from the Romance Writers of America. Her debut, Mr Imperfect, won a Romantic Book of the Year Award in Australia, and her first self-published title, RISE, a rock star romance also finaled. Other books in the Rock Solid series are FALL, PLAY and (coming soon), RESURRECTION.
This was really good. Jordan is a playboy who needs to salvage his reputation in order to get the camp for kids he and his partners are trying to get off the ground. Kate is a reporter who lights to bring to light nefarious dealings and Jordan seems to be her next target. He decides to let her go on a camping trip with him and a few other people to see him in his world and how he really is with kids. There is a speed in which the relationship happens, but aside from that it was a good read.
I like the premise of the book, that whole in the nature setting (even though I cringe on the thought of camping). :)
Something about Kate, the heroine, just rubbed me the wrong way. I didn't particularly like her. Jordan, the hero, is a guy with some commitment issues, a nice one, but not really memorable.
The reason the book only got 3 stars, rather than 4, is the rather abrupt ending. Kate's action are influenced by her relationship with her father, and we don't even get an reconciliation scene, just a mention in the very ending, when the focus is one the h/h honeymoon. Although I am a fan of big gestures, it would've been nice to see some step in the romance between the argument and the HEA.
I would have given this book 4 stars if it hadn't been for the multiple POV's - one of which made little to no sense at all and where the information provided could have easily been given to the main characters by someone else. There was also a scene here and there where the POV alternated between the main characters and it wasn't entirely clear whose POV I was reading.
As a whole, though, it was an enjoyable read, and I finished it all in one afternoon/evening, which is a good sign when it comes to superromances (around 85,000 words in length). It means I cared enough about the characters and their budding relationship to keep reading until the very last page.
The ending might have felt a bit rushed, but at the same time, it tied up the story nicely and provided the reader with the customary HEA.
In short, if multiple POV's in a romance novel doesn't bother you, go ahead and read this book.
I must admit I had a bit of a tough time warming to the hero of this book, whose physical description made him sound like a cross between Richard Branson of Virgin airlines (if I've got his name right) and Fabio. Since his long golden locks are something of a plot point I couldn't just imagine them away. But, as was the case for the heroine, eventually they grew on me.
One thing I really like about Karina Bliss's books is that they are set in New Zealand and include a fair amount of local color without seeming travelogish. She gives just enough information and definition of local terms to keep an American reader from getting lost, but seems to trust us to google anything we find interesting enough to want more in-depth information about. This book was full of such things in the exotic wilderness setting of the Whanganui River. It made for a really fun read.
Jordan King didn’t grow up in a dysfunctional household. They were economically challenged with five children to send to schools, but the foundation of love and support was always there. Jordan, Christian and Luke made it their mission to never again be poor. Wildly wealthy, now people only see the ease of their trappings.
Kate Brogan can’t stand to be fooled, or taken for a fool. It makes her protective, persistent and powerful. When she finds herself attracted to Jordan, she immediately looks for his messy underbelly. Men that confident and arrogant are cads underneath, in her experience. He doesn’t have to try to attract attention; it comes automatically. She plans to show him as he really is.
But there is more to Jordan than first appears; and once Kate sets aside the superficial, she finds a man. A confident, generous and willing to admit mistakes, man. She’s a goner. And so is he. Beautiful.
Another book which has been updated and repackaged but was originally a Mills & Boon romance and it does show.
Jordan King is a billionaire philanthropist desperately trying to set up a camp for disadvantaged children, but a couple of articles by investigative reporter Kate Brogan have cast him in a less-than attractive light, which has had repercussions on the camp.
When Jordan meets Kate he tries just a bit too hard to make her fall for his charms, which has the opposite effect. The only way he can undo the damage he has done is to persuade her that he is a good guy, and what better way to do that than to take her camping in the New Zealand wilderness with his ex-girlfriend's son, his estranged father and a stroppy teenager!
Everyone has 'issues', Kate has never forgiven her father for his philandering and is pushing that on Jordan, Jordan is trying to make up for growing up poor by showing off his wealth and his toys, etc etc.
A pleasant enough read but not a patch on the Rock Solid series.
After going on a Karina Bliss reading binge, I have to say that she is rapidly becoming one of my favorite Harlequin authors. Her story are short, but yet they pack a fantastic story, with unexpected twists that add to the characters personalities. In Mr. Irresistible, you have the fantastic protagonists who explode with chemistry on every pages, their antagonistic beginnings allow for a release of angst, and the trip with the kids is fantastic in showing readers who have never been to New Zealand the beauty that makes the country so breathtaking. The only reason why this book receives 4 stars, instead of 5 is because of the sudden ending--I wish we would have seen her reunion with her father and at least the wedding or their life as an engaged couple...nevertheless it was a fantastic book and I can't wait to get my hands on more of her books.
Read 10-07. The best I can recall I liked how the author developed the characters and gave them thier own voice. The man was kind of cocky but he really did it with a sense of charm. The woman played well off his energy and they made a pleasing couple to read. Enough so to where I wanted to read the continuation if there was another book. Which I believe there is now.
I liked, but didn’t love this book. Enjoy Karina Bliss’s style, but it felt disjointed here. The buddies that tie the series together and their relationship felt forced. I also thought the ending was rushed. I have read better from this author.
I'm writing this after reading another one of the "Mr." books and I have to say, it's not my favorite series by Ms. Bliss.
i liked the book.it was just great :) i loved the story line and how everything took place. it was a very sweet love story.it was sad as well as humouring.i suggest people read it :) i know you all will love it :)
Another good story but not really what I was in the mood for. I liked the hero but the heroine wasn't one of my favorites. I think I would have liked it better if the love scenes had happened a little bit earlier.
This was a bit slow for me initially, and I didn't particularly care for either character. However, they both grew on me and by the end I quite enjoyed the book. I'd probably give it a C+, so 3.5 stars.
