This was actually a pretty well written little guide. The advice wasn't particularly organized especially well, but the prose was well written and it was an easy read.

I think this book is stale. Carson is simply not an inspiring teacher which would be ok if the information was top notch but it isn't. There are far better books you can read to learn this game. There are some good things in this book but they are not something that you cannot find elsewhere. There is too much emphasis on hand rankings and not enough on situations. Read Small Stakes Hold Em by Sklansky/Miller/Malmuth instead.

This book is so out-dated, that is should be titled as guide to playing and losing. Big bet section in particular is unbelievably bad.

verbose writing; over-prescriptive; completely out of date the styles of play of today
