This book is about a kid that did not have any friends because he didn't want to be friends with the girl next door. He gets a monster every month and things quickly get out of hand. All of a sudden they are all out fighting in the front yard, and you will never guess who comes to the rescue.

I have mixed feelings about this book. I think it would have been better if it wasn't so confusing. I think that what made it so bad was all the monster names were similar and I wanted to quit reading the book halfway through.

I would use this in my classroom as a lesson to show what can happen if you try to hide things from your parents. Also as an example that things are not always what they seem and friends can be friends with everyone.

The trouble you can get into when you won't play with your next-door neighbor (because she's a girl) and you order from the Monster of the Month club instead. Funny story and nice ending. We've read this one a few times.

The little boy doesn't have anyone to play with until he joins the monster of the month club. But he gets into something deep when he gets to many of them and doesn't know what to do with them. But the little girl next door knows what to do and helps him and in the end they become friends.
