This text offers thorough coverage of case law as it applies to elementary and secondary school administrators. Its interdisciplinary (law/education) approach integrates legal and educational policy throughout, using cases and articles with notes and discussion questions.
If you are looking for a comprehensive, well written textbook on the history of educational law in the States, this is an excellent choice. The Q&A at the end of each opinion was thought provoking, the summary of the case context and significance were thorough yet concise, and the chapters were logically divided and organized. I was happy to see they didn't just cover the Supreme Court and I do feel I have a much more concrete and informed understanding of educational law in the United States.
Sadly, the 4th edition (2001) was the only edition I wanted to afford, so it didn't include updates on topics such as drug use and the First Amendment or limits to school searches that the Supreme Court tackle later on and I'm sure are covered in the 2011 edition.
I highly recommend this textbook to anyone looking for an academic understanding of US ed law.
