Rate this book
I’m only a week short of my eighteenth birthday when I discover my drug-addicted mother dead, a needle in her arm.

It’s only then I learn of the family I’d forgotten—a stepfather and his two adult sons. One is star of the music world, a blind violinist who wows his audience on stage.

The other brother is his protection—a six-four beast who no one dares cross.

I don’t need them.

They don’t want me.

With my head still spinning, I find myself plunged into a world of wealth and fame.

But it’s a brief dalliance.

A private plane is due to take us to a concert hall in Montreal. Except it doesn’t make it.

We find ourselves crashed in the middle of the Canadian wilderness with little hope of rescue.

Survival becomes all.

I’m stranded with three men. Though they barely know me, we’re forced to pull together.

We might be family, but out here, where no one else can judge us, they become so much more.

5/5 🌟 4/5 🔥

Wanna read about a girl falling for her stepfather and two stepbrothers? PICK THIS ONE. It's SO good!!!

"I have to protect her. Even if that means protecting her from my two sons. Even if that means protecting her from myself."

Laney has had an awful life. Her mom was a drug addict and she walked in and found her mom overdosed. Because she's only 17 (18th birthday in a week) she was told she had to either stay with family or go into the system until she's 18. She doesn't have any family... but finds out her mom was married when she was a child and never got a divorce. Surprisingly she has a stepfather and two stepbrothers!

Reed, her stepdad, picks her up and whisks her away. It's so awkward between them but the chemistry is AMAZING. Because one of her stepbrothers is a famous blind musician, she learns she's going on tour with them.

I was NOT expecting this book to go the way that it did. There were several surprises I didn't see coming! I absolutely love Laney and the guys.

SAFETY:
Age: 17/18h, 20H, 22H, 40H
Cheating: no!
OM/OW drama: no!
Sex scene with OM/OW: no!
Virgin/celibate/manwhore: virgin heroine, manwhore heroes
Tropes: taboo love (stepdaughter/stepbrothers/stepfather)
Triggers: panic attacks, mild bullying, graphic violence
Kinks: dirty talk, rough sex
HEA?: CLIFFHANGER!

My bookshelves may contain spoilers.

If Credence and The Wild had a baby it would be Immoral Steps. Less exciting though.

Although I wanted to LOVE the story, it was okay. It wasn't the best RH. The dialogue at the beginning was pretty repetitive. The boys were too understanding and encouraging with Laney (the FMC) wanting to fuck Reed (the step-father). I wanted tension, jealously, and angst prior to them fucking, but this story did not have much of that. They really didn't give a fuck who Laney fucked. They were too willing to share.

The heroine wasn't that interesting. I really didn't care for her. She was desperate and flat. Also, when did she start loving them?? It just came out of nowhere. I felt 0 connection between any of them to be honest. I LOVED REED THOUGH.

Will I continue the duet? No. The plot intrigued me at first, but then it got boring. The relationships were also boring. 2/3 of this book is just them repetitively fucking.

Got bored and it is super inaccurate. I was fine with some the inaccuracies but when it got to the point where she says she has her legs waxed regularly and yet she talks about being so poor to not be able to afford food regularly I was out. Waxing is way more expensive than food and a luxury that poor people do not ever get done. Heck i would be surprised if she used precious money to buy a dollar razor so waxing ya no way.

I had such high hopes for this as the back was given Credence vibes..was very let down. Obviously extremely unrealistic, but it was so corny at times.

Laney was handed a raw deal in life. When her trailer park bubble is burst she’s left in unfamiliar territory. It’s a week till she’s 18 and she needs a guardian until her birthday. She finds out there is a back up plan for her life and now she has a new family.

Reed is her stepfather and now her legal guardian. He and his two sons are going to become more than a temporary fix.

This wasn’t what I was expecting. I was thinking it was going to be full of sinful dirty talk and one of the brothers does attempt it but overall it’s kinda a happy F*** up family on all parts.

This is RH, stepbrother, stepfather romance which was entertaining and promises more.

5 stars because the writing was addictive, it gave Creedence vibes and although it’s a slow burn it got steaming hot🔥 towards the end.

By the end I was kind of annoyed by how big of a deal the main characters were making of being steps. Like you never met, are in no way related and aside from the age gap between Laney and Reed, the step-father, I wasn't seeing the big deal. But the fact it had to be mentioned, thought, said aloud like every time they breathed was a little ott. I liked the story line, which is what is going to force me to pick up book 2, and Darious. Not sure I cared about the rest, but we'll see if I connect more with book 2.

this is basically credence 2.0 so you know i ate it up. i liked the plot - there was really no chemistry between them but the smut was good so who cares!

normally wouldn’t bother continuing to the next book but that cliffhanger has me itching to read what happens next so having to wait a couple of weeks is gonna be difficult.

MORALLY CORRUPT- WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND!!!

Zero stars. Depraved writer Marissa Farrar wants to toe the line of incest by writing a female lead who just turns 18 and finds herself stranded after a plane crash with her stepfather and two stepbrothers, guess what happens next? THATS right she’s fing all three. That’s the excrement you find in romance these days. So sexy, romantic, and normal for an 18 yo girl to be passed around by her male “family” members. Marissa Farrar is disgusting and needs some serious therapy. Absolutely SICKENING!

if you like Credence, this is for you

It was just okay. The build up wasn’t really there, the chemistry felt lacking, and I’m honestly not sure who she’s meant to end up with. But the writing was pretty good and it scratched an itch for now.

Another reverse harem with a good plot idea and marketing tropes that have promise, but everything falls just a little short development wise. I like the plane crash and forced proximity/survival aspects, and the very lightly taboo aspects but both could have been leaned into more, especially the taboo. The insta-attracted thoughts the heroine has for the three heroes is boring and the love declared by the end was completely unearned, which is always a downfall with me in RHs. Some of the brief sex scenes are hot on their own but I would have appreciated more tension and angst before the too-easy capitulations. The writing is simple, about average for RHs but below for books overall, about 25ish editing errors and double that for sentences that could have used some tweaking. My OCD and the little bit of interest I still have in the story will have me attempting at least book two but it will be when I am in the mood for something easy to read that I don't need to pay much attention to.

*spoilers* Laney is nearly 18 when her mother, a woman highly addicted to drugs and alcohol, dies due to an overdose. Surprisingly her stepfather Reed comes to pick her up and take care of her until she turns 18 in a week. Laney did not even know they were still married, having not seen him for 14 years. He took off and got sober to take care of his two sons Cade and Darius, whose mother was terminal ill. Darius is a genius with the violin and very famous. Reed is his manager and Cade head of security. Darius lost his eyesight because of a measel infection when he was seven. They all have their own issues and most of all Cade is not happy to suddenly have a stepsister. After only one night they take off on a private plane to Canada for another concert of the famous Darius when their plane crashes. Like a wonder the four survive and really get to know each other and other than first seemed possible.
This is kind of taboo, because Reed, Darius and Cade are her stepather and brothers, but they are not related and Laney barely remembers Reed. I did not find this story smutty, but with much depth to the characters. It was my first one of this author and it was really captivating. Each of the four has his or her own sturggles and triggers, but they grow so close in a special way, but not only sexually. They come a long way from anger, regret and guilt. So much more than what I first expected! I just did not like the cliffhanger too much.

i love the multiple POVs and the story is interesting that i did not want to stop reading. like 96% through i was SO frustrated with the ending and then the actual ending of the book had me downloading the second book and reading a couple chapters even at 4am!

there are some spots where the grammar is a little questionable and i’ve decided that it was not done on purpose so that was a little frustrating.

otherwise this book was super good and i loved the plot and the spice is spicin’ 🌶️🌶️🌶️

this book checked all my boxes🥵

I was hoping for better, the set up was there but the only real scene we get is with her and the dad for what ever reason.
I got uncomfortable vibes with her and the dad, not the boys, that was hot but the dad just wasn’t it. Also not a stand-alone but not good enough to move on.

.

I honestly think this book was trying to do too much. The toxicity was kind of expected seeing as it was a dark themed book, but this was ridiculous. A lot of this book was awkwardly written. The characters weren’t like able.

*Spoilers ahead*

First, of course, there’s the trailer trash/gold digger stereotype. Everyone has to be doing drugs for sure. Then Cades gambling and messing with the wrong crowds. The cabin’s mysterious dead body and what appears to be gun runners. And the ending, because of course in the middle of nowhere there’s going to be people that they magically run into that are up to no good (of course it’s those darn gun runners, shocking), because out of the hundreds of miles and the weeks spent in the wild, it only seems right that they run into each other when they leave.

I don’t know about the author, but as a violin player in the past, I know the bows are long, and the way she wrote the scene with Laney and Darius was incredibly awkward.

I know I’m definitely forgetting stuff but this definitely wasn’t for me.

This book got me curious because of the blurb but omfg what a disappointment 🥴

The beginning of the book got me curious but the story didn't had a proper development and just like that after 50+% of the book the characters start to have sex out of nowhere (I mean one of them hated the heroine but then doesn't care and the other was her stepfather that wanted to resist but then didn't care).

I see a lot of people comparing this book to "Credence" and oh boy not a chance.

I'm not even going to read the rest of the series even after that cliff hanger, I'm not interested. Thank you, next.

Outstanding survival reverse harem romance

The intensity of the sexual tension between the characters was so distracting that it took me ages to realise this was more of a slow burner. The multiple points of view were well written. I especially liked the combination of reverse harem and survival tropes.

If you’re not into some spicy and heated family bonding time this is definitely not the book for you. This might just be my new Credence and it happens to be a finished trilogy series. Though the ending was unforgiving. With lack of time and not being able to immediately continue to find out what is happening next.

Our opening scene has us meeting our FMC, Laney, becoming orphaned a week before she turns 18 years old. Her mother having struggled with addiction for years. The way Laney loses her mother was tragic yet beautifully written.

Having Laney pick up after her. The way Laney finds her mother is sad and it broke my heart entirely. Even though this can be a reality for some children, no one should be growing up like the way Laney had to do.

Reed immediately launching Laney into a world of luxury, literally the same day she’s lost her mother and is clearly grieving yet unable to process her feelings about it, is something that also showed us how vastly different their lives had become. He’s arranged a personal shopper/stylist appointment for her to bring her clothes and dress her for Darius’s concert. Followed by Laney’s unforeigness of blini’s and canapes. Her feelings towards their accumulated wealth seems to spark a hint of jealousy inside her.

The brothers do make pretentious assumptions about Laney when they don’t even know her and literally just met her. Not everyone is money hungry and wants their fair share of the wealth.

Laney
She’s fierce, determined and extremely strong. Not taking anything someone, especially Cade, throws her way. She’s very well equipped to stand up for herself and voice her opinion.

Cade
This man was insufferable at first when he opened his mouth. Though later on he’ll slowly grow on you little by little. Throughout the book Cade and Laney fight like they’re siblings. His mouth though, needs rinsing with some soap, because they do make one melt into a puddle.

Darius
He surprised me, where he seemed very timid and being led by his brother, Cade, Darius having his own moments of instigating naughtiness. A violin’s bow doesn’t necessarily have to strike on a violin, it can be used for other activities as well.

Reed
This man seemed riddled by guilt, but I also understand why Reed never reached out or checked in after leaving Laney’s mother and Laney herself. It wasn’t his responsibility to take care of them, he didn’t owe them anything at all.

Cade, Darius and Laney banding together to get Reed be the first to “initiate” Laney into adulthood is a little odd yet incredibly funny the longer you think about it. Like he got dibs for some unknown reason other than “it just feels right”.
Reed’s first moment with Laney did make me giggle, because were they both really that naive to think Cade and Darius wouldn’t hear them. But it opened the door for their own little initiation process. The brothers are very good at making you blush and make the room temperature rise to heatwave levels.

Personal preferences
- There’s an inconsistent pacing to the book. Some chapters read like 5 minutes where others can drag up to 30 minutes.
- What happened to Cade’s leg? After the plane crash he was severely injured, but somehow that miracuously healed and seemed to have dissolved into thin air.
Moments like described above, make the timeline seem a little off.
- Them not being found by a rescue team seems odd and it makes me wonder if they really have disappeared into thin air for the outside world.

Honestly, this book was enjoyable, I liked it a lot and will be continuing soon again with the other two books in this series.

Riveting read of a family and stepsister who come together in difficult times, their survival and love

Laney had known since about the age of nine that one day she was going to come home nd find her mother dead and that was what happened and she is alone with no family, no one to help or care for her so what is she to do.

Social services advise Laney that her mother was still married and when her stepfather was contacted, he said that he would come and see her, he had taken her to see his two sons who surprisingly are famous. He younger son is the famous bling violinist known as Darius Riviera and together with his older brother Cade he ensures that his brother is safe by knowing floor plans everywhere they go.

Within a couple of days, the family have to take a private plane for a concert that Darius is to give, unfortunately there is a problem with the instruments on the plane and they crash in a forest. The two piolets are killed and the cockpit burns and the hostess was in the rear of the plane that had broken off and she has been lost.

As the two brothers and their father manage to find an old hut in the forest the start to survive on the land by catching animals and berries and they manage to find a river wher they are able to catch fish and boil drinking water. As the months pass and the weather begins to change it is obvious that it seems unlikely that they will be rescued, they have probably been reported as dead.

Reed was surprised that at only three years of age that Laney had actually remembered the man that had lived with her mother for a short period of times and that he had been the only man that had made her mother happy and who she had felt safe and happy with unfortunately this had been over far too quickly.

As the three men and Laney are in the Forrest the relationship they have is exceedingly close and intimate and as they are not related the fact there is a sexual interest between the brothers and her and also she feels the same desire for Laney but he seems very reluctant.

I know that you will love this story it is very sexual but also has a great intrigue and adventure element and you will be held on a knife edge wondering what the outcome will be for this group of people.

I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read.

Immoral Steps is book one in The Immoral Series. A standalone full-length romance complete with no cheating and ends on a cliffhanger. A steamy step-brothers/stepfather story with darker themes. An age gap trope story filled with kinky pluckerly, passion, lust, loss, danger, taboo, opposite attracts, forbidden romance, forced proximity, dirty talking, virgin heroine, intense sexual scenes, drug and alcohol abuse, pain, angst, perseverance, survival, heartaches, guilt, secrets, reverse harem romance, resentment, burner chemistry with serious slow burn, three hot of AF alpha, dominating, submission, steam, trust issues, and so much more. A dark, twisted, and depraved story. It's compelling, passionate and riveting and keeps the reader engaged and invested in characters right until that mind-blowing cliffhanger. Beautifully written with extraordinary characters and great storyline that keeps you engrossed and turning the pages. Marissa Farrar knows how to blend spicy and sensual in a story.
Laney has had a rough life with drug addict mom. She always had to get work to take care of herself and her addict mom until the day she came home and found her dead from an overdose. Laney was underage and a week from her eighteenth birthday and was going to be placed into the foster care. The social worker told her that she either move in with family or she become a resident of the state. The social worker found Laney's mom husband Reed who said that he would take her in. He felt so guilty for walking away years ago. Read has two son one a famous blind violinist Darius Riviera and his bodyguard brother who ensures that is brother is safe by priding himself on knowing the layout and exits of every where that goes. Reed come and get Laney her life when from poverty to wealthy in a matter of days. Darius has a concert in Canada and four boarded a private airplane. However, the pilot experience some problems which causes the plane to go down in the Canadian wilderness killing the pilot and crew with them as the only survivor's.
They located an old hut in the forest where they wait to be rescued. They lived off the earth and sea in to survive. As the months passed it was evident that they weren't getting rescued and that's it's possible that people may presume that they're dead. As four people is forced to stuck together, they started growing attracted to each. It was wrong and totally off limit. But they weren't really related. The sex scenes were downright filthy and erotic. A steamy start to this series.

Laney is trapped in the wilderness with three grown men. Any woman's fantasy, right? Well, here's the catch: she's known them for only a couple of days... and they're her step family. Reed, the stepfather, is a protective daddy type who seems to be extra attentive. Cade, step brother #1, is a snide jackass who has a threatening air about him that she's wary of. And Damien, step brother #2, is a sensitive and talented violinist who depends on Cade for protection since he's blind. In the real world, it's clear when a line is crossed, but what happens when you strip that away? What happens when all semblance of normalcy is gone in an instant and there's no one to judge you for your choices? What is morality when there's no one to establish what that is?

I wish I could have given this a 3.5 on here, and here's why: I started this expecting it to be one of my trashy smut throwaways. You know the type: you read it for one reason, maybe push some boundaries, but the quality isn't guaranteed. Next thing I know, I'm 70 pages in and I'm HOOKED. The pacing of the story was phenomenal. The style of the story definitely makes you yourself question what is and isn't "okay." And the spice? 🥵 top tier perfection, baby. This book definitely had a strong start and has massive potential as a series.

Here's why it's not a solid 4 or 5 from me: As strong of a start as it was, I felt like once the spice got going, we were rushing to end it. All of a sudden, certain details were thrown in, which made the story take a different angle, but the build-up to those details wasn't as thought out as the beginning of the book. Could this have been Farrar's way of introducing the next book? Probably so, which is fine, but still felt like last-minute additions for shock factor. A nit picky thing for me would be the need for editing (I would like to point out this didn't stand out for me until the last quarter or so of the book, which brings us back to my point of feeling rushed). Another ick of mine was how the step family dynamic was used. Whenever it was mentioned how someone was a stepfather, brother, sister, or daughter, it felt very forced. To me, it felt like it pandered to a specific kink community. Especially since most of them were followed up with "well only technically" or "well, we're not really family." With how this was written, I felt like they were constantly giving a wink emoji to eachother.

All in all, I enjoyed this read, and I am excited to keep going. I think this series could be great and I will recommend it to anyone looking for some incredible spice 😉.

A sexy and suspenseful 'forbidden' romance
Immoral Steps, the first instalment in Marissa Farrar’s new series is an intensely sexy and forbidden why choose romance, involving the heroine Laney’s two stepbrothers and also her stepfather…. It also has a hint of suspense which the author introduces in this book, which, given the nature of the cliffhanger ending, I expect she will develop more fully in subsequent instalments.
After the tragic death of her addict of a mother, the seventeen-year-old Laney finds herself living with her stepfather Reed and his sons; the world-renowned blind violinist Darius, and his brooding older brother Cade. Before all concerned can come to terms with the abrupt change in circumstances and family dynamics, the plane that was carrying them crashes and survival is the new imperative.
I loved the many layers to this book: the rags to riches element; Laney’s anger at being abandoned by Reed; his guilt at leaving her with her addict of a mother and above all his resistance to the ‘forbidden’ attraction that simmers between them. It is one sexy read! I also liked the survival element of them being thrust into the wilderness and having to work together to survive. Emotions and passions run high, and all three men (each very different) develop feelings for Laney…
Cade is a ladies’ man with a hard edge and something to hide. He is also initially suspicious of Laney and does not welcome her with open arms. Darius is more of an introvert and even though he is blind he is perceptive and can sense what others fail to see. Responsibility for his family weighs heavy on Reed as he struggles with his feelings and seeks to ensure their survival.
I was rooting for Laney from the off – she has had it hard, having to survive on her own for so long due to her mother’s addictions. She is as unprepared as the others to dealing with the plane crash and being stranded in the wilderness and now she has three very attractive and virile men to deal with. So what if a relationship between her and them would be regarded as ‘forbidden' in polite society? In the wilderness instinct takes over and it is a different matter, and they may not even survive…
A great first book in series.

I wanted to like this way more than I did. Got to 68% before DNF.

The sexual tension just wasn't there for me. There wasn't enough banter, there wasn't enough interaction, and there wasn't enough longing to justify the characters acting so ... well, out of character. Cade hates this girl and then suddenly doesn't without any rhyme or reason. Darius is sympathetic and not at all weirded out by Laney masturbating in front of him without his knowledge or permission (and he does NOT strike me as the kind of person to be okay with that since he needs to know everything about his environment to be comfortable). Laney is a virgin FMC but isn't totally humiliated when she is caught at this, and yet she has acted incredibly uncomfortable in other (much milder) sexual situations.

Things aren't really built up over time for the reader. Within the scene, Laney is like, "Oh, well I've been horny for weeks now and these guys are banging even though we are all slowly starving to death." But there wasn't really any actions prior to this scene that show her suppressed lust, her increasing attraction for the MMCs, or even her struggle with temptation. I just ended up feeling uncomfortable when the smut started because it came across as insincere/fake, like a porno where somebody stumbles into the copy room where a woman is xeroxing her butt and then they fuck like two awkward blow up dolls.

Also, I wanted more on the survival aspect. Their struggle should be this vivid, nail-biting thing. Instead, it's just glossed over with basic summary and no actual showing. Lots and lots of telling.
