I thought the book had some useful advice, but was too long and talked about many of the author's students and could've been shortened dramatically by taking out many of these examples. The author is clearly well versed in the field of strength and had many useful insights, and my only gripe with the book is that I think it is much longer than it had to be.

It's different than your typical fitness-related book. It's more about the theory and personal experience of the author. Lots of anecdotal stuff, conversations he had about particularly strong people he met and picking their brains. I personally loved it but can understand those who wouldn't because there aren't any workout plans or things like that in the book.

Paraphrasing: "Strength straining should be an exciting past time not a draining chore."

A great window into early 20th century strongmen

A fascinating look at strength training before PEDs and scientific studies. Many of the principles outlined here are still very much in effect.

Old school

Interesting read though if you want real lifting advice try another book or a modern book. This book has good information but it's very basic and not any details on actually how to get strong. More like an essay on developing strength.
