For a juvenile non-fiction book, especially one with a cultural/historical bent, this one consistently maintains interest, partly through dealing with unusual everyday life. There are enough pictures, details, and topics (although even more pictures would appeal to most people) and I felt like I got a good overall view at Ottoman culture.

This was a nice addition to our World History text book; especially on the chapter about the Ottoman Empire that was poorly done. The information was told in an interesting way with many photographs or illustrations that complimented the text well.
