Great little intro to the subject for children, so classic Ladybird. It gives the pagan history of a number of Christian festivals. As always with LB books, I learnt some new things, in this case, these include more detail about Leap years, and that St Andrew is the patron saint of Russia. The mention of the feast of Huli, celebrated at the end of March by Hindus reminded me of the old British tradition of sending new apprentices for things like a jar of elbow grease, or a bag of straight screws, or a bubble for the middle of a spirit level!
