This is really great drawing book, because it shows each step in red on top of the previous steps in black. I was going to use this in conjunction with Janice Harrington visiting the library and her new picture book biography called Buzzing with questions: the Inquisitive mind of Charles Henry Turner, illustrated by Theodore Taylor III, but we ended up with live insects instead. But I think this could be an easy program, even on zoom.

What? This book shows students how easy it is to draw their favorite insect. The author provides easy to follow sequencing for students to follow as they draw each insect. This book also illustrates the thickness of lines used by different mediums of art.

So What? Children will gain confidence and improve their artistic abilities as they go through each page of the book. The author encourages students increase their imagination by asking them to create their own fictitious insects.

Now What? During a unit on insects I would have students decorate the room with the different insects they create using this book.

Today we didn't have to go anywhere: Today was a stay-home-and-draw day. My almost-five-year son had finished coloring his Hallowe'en pictures, so I thought he might like to draw some spiders and spiderwebs. I was right.

The directions in the Bug Drawing Book are simple enough that my son could follow them (if I was right there talking him through them), and yet the illustrations are interesting and complex enough that I can see him using this book as reference for many years. I'm especially grateful that Mr. Masiello examined the spiders and insects up-close so that I did not have to.
