The story was cute, I guess. But it's like everything went wrong. Donovan, I loved the name, but the character? Nuh-uh. He was a shallow person, who didn't have any reason to be the jerk he was. The cover made me pick up the book. I love stories with pregnancy/babies. But this was just not good.
There was no other woman, but the hero's love for his position, and his company, did the job! The heroine, Cassidy, was too good for him.
P.S. Donovan is not only emotionless. He is robotic.
Quick read with all of the TSTL moments one would expect with secret baby books. Still not too certain I buy why she left (and didn't tell him about the baby) in the first place.
A slow starter but once past page 40 it picked up. A secret marriage almost blew up in his face and alnost loosing out on becoming the CEO of the company made him realize that nothing is more important than family. His baby and his wife. He was ready to walk away from it all to be with the one he loved. A good quick read.
I didn't like it, I felt like a chunk of story was missing because the story started with heroine pregnant and hero only going to her because his grandfather's will. I still don't understand hero and how he felt about heroine originally or even if he was celibate during the 8 month separation. I don't really like that hero had zero intention of pursuing her if not for his grandfather's will. P.
So, I understand the phrase being “blinded by love”, but the female lead was blinded by a toxic “idealized love” and her own weaknesses. Especially when she claimed in the book multiple times, that she changed and was a stronger woman. She needed strength and she needed a backbone. She would not stand up for herself when her “husband” would tell her repeatedly that he makes the decisions for her. (Toxic, toxic, toxic). Girl, you need to run far away from this loser. The male lead was a horrible character throughout the entire book. The author tried to redeem him in the last 5% of the book, but she wasn’t fooling anyone but her own weak heroine. I understand where she was trying to come from with Charleston old vs. the Charleston new. I have been there and lived there for a couple years. You can see it sometimes. But really? I felt like she tried to use that as an excuse for him being a sexist dirt bag. It almost felt like the author was trying to excuse his toxic behaviors. Which is just not right. I enjoy conflict in a book. It shows the true colors of characters within the book. But these characters were terrible. There was no true growth in my eyes for either one of them. If she maybe had started developing her characters around 60% through the book, maybe his change would have been much more believable. But it just wasn’t. I gave this 2 stars the first time I read it. But after reading it again, I cannot give it more than a 1. It was that bad. Please don’t bother reading this book.
I think this is the one romance book with the least amount of erotica I've ever read. Well, at least in a few years. But you know what? That was actually kind of nice.
What I didn't like as much, was the whole "humid opening of her body" thing, and it was mentioned a couple times. That just icked me out. So very unsexy.
Also; how many times did she have to leave him or think about leaving him before it became redundant? In the end, all this forced drama read like it was added to the story to make it longer. There just wasn't any point to it, and only served to annoy. I very nearly flounced the book 3/4 through.
Other than that, it was a cute story. But I didn't exactly connect with the characters. They were very once-dimensional.
Billionaire Donovan Tolley had it all—money, smarts and sex appeal. But none of that would get him what he craved—Cassidy Franzone, back in his bed. Now. He had to marry to keep his family's company, and Cassidy was the woman he wanted. But when he found his runaway lover, she was almost nine months pregnant! The baby had to be his. But convincing Cassidy to marry him without love on the table was one negotiation this cunning billionaire might not win.…
This is another of the "Billionaires and Babies" series. Charleston, SC, comes alive in this book. The characters are satisfying. Donovan Tolley works better than does Cassidy Franzone, but the story is a satisfying read.
Giving this book 2 stars was not by choice- It was because of the baby, if there was no baby 0.5 will do the trick The girl acted like she has no class even though Donovan was an ass to her She was a pawn if u ask me in all ways She was so cheap and too easy Honestly her best friend doesn't love or else she would have slapped But then I should stop acting like its their fault When the author wants to write another book she should make sure the girl has a little more spirit because no love is that one sided
A good story. It is interesting but I felt Cassidy wasn't a character that was given much depth. More was given about Donovan and his actions. Some was given about Cassidy but I felt I didn't really know her.
This book captured my interest enough to finish but I really did not like the ending, there was insufficient atonement. Billionaire Donovan has to marry to be CEO and looks to Cassidy who is nearly nine months pregnant with his baby.
The book was good right up until the end, when I finished the last word - I was like, is that it?? It seemed to abrupt and Cassidy was way too forgiving he lied to her, their entire marriage was basically a sham. Apart from the last chapter I enjoyed reading this story.
It's ok but I think there wasn't anything new being revealed throughout the book, and you could guess the ending. The characters weren't given much depth. Wouldn't recommend to friends as it wasn't the most exciting of books.
I like romance stories, but this one did not work for me. Cassidy was just too much of a doormat for me. Gave in way to easy and there really wasn't much romance at atll
