This book contains the best hands-on insider sewing tips from the popular sewing website PatternReview.com, a community of more than 170,000 members. The entries are collected from the website’s enormous database of members’ shared comments and advice, rated by hits and reviews. Also included are five special how-to features by PatternReview.com's master teachers and pattern designers, who regularly conduct online chats and workshops (including Kenneth King, Susan Khalje, Sarah Veblen, Shannon Gifford, and Anna Mazur).
Very useful tips. Unlike other reviewers, I found the organization to be better than other compendiums of tips I've read (for example, Knitting Tips Trade Secrets). I'm glad I got it at the library, and now will buy it.
I especially appreciate the editorial comments Deepika has added. Rather than leave out tips that might not apply to all situations, Deepika points out things that make them more applicable, or better. One tip is to fit things inside out to make markings easier. Deepika then reminds us that this will put the right on the left side. No problem if the changes are symmetrical, but if one has a high hip or other asymmetric bulge, it will confuse things.
I probably didn't really NEED to buy this book, but I did! There are a lot of great tips and tricks in here. There are also a lot of so-so (sew-sew, ha!) tips here too. A lot of the tricks could probably be found online somewhere, but it'll be nice to have this as a reference when I'm working on projects.
There are some good tips in there. Some of them are outdated, though. Also, without pictures, it is difficult to imagine what these tips actually look like in real life.
I thought it had a lot of great tips, some obvious and some not so good. It would be a good book to have sitting around and pick up and read a few every so often, but it's not a good straight through read. It's like being on the internet offline...lots of tips from user boards is what it looks like. I had a hard time reading it straight through, had it checked out from the library and renewed multiple times and still couldn't finish. I will send it back, but keep it on my to use list again and get another day when I'm more into my sewing. Right now I am taking a break from it and working on learning crochet so I'll probably forget the really good tips before I pull out my machine again!
I have been sewing off an on for over 20 years and I found this book to be quite useful. So many times I find myself wondering if there is another easier way to use a technigue. This is a great one sounce place to find alternaties or shortcuts to sewing. I had not headr of the website, Patternreview.com but now I have it bookmarked and I check it out before a big project.
This book just arrived in my mailbox a couple of days ago but what I have read of it is great. There are tips that I have known about for years but also lots of new things (and a few lightbulb moments!)
This book will be a handy addition to my growing sewing library and I'm sure I will refer to it a lot in the future.
The tips are great, and this book is a good read, but I won't be adding it to my sewing library, as the tips are very random, not well organized and not searchable. If I'm looking for tips or a technique, I'll just go online.
