Embarking on IVF - or any assisted fertility treatment - can be a very demanding and stressful experience, but the right physical, nutritional and emotional support can lessen these stresses and strains and increase your chances of success.
In Zita West's Guide to Fertility and Assisted Conception leading fertility and pregnancy expert, Zita West, offers an in-depth explanation of all aspects of fertility and, uniquely, addresses the issues involved in using assisted conception. In her clear, yet sensitive, style Zita explains: - All aspects of fertility - from preconception and trying naturally through to assisted conception - What is involved in the IVF process - How to prepare your body to increase your chances of conceiving successfully - The importance of a proactive approach to diet and nutrition - How complementary therapies, such as acupuncture, can increase your chances of success
Including interviews with leading experts in the field, case histories from patients and Zita's own holistic principles, this is an invaluable guide for the growing number of people who are considering, or have already embarked on, medical intervention to enable them to conceive.
If you want a self-help book full of hope and nice toughs, which pushes for expensive complementary therapies, and stresses the obvious (eat well, get the right body weight, stop smoking, reduce alcohol and stress) this will be a good choice. However, if you want a more detailed explanation of the IVF process, I would suggest reading The Complete Guide to IVF: An Inside View of Fertility Clinics and Treatment by Kate Brian, or, if you prefer a more personal account of the IVF journey, Get A Life: His & Hers Survival Guide to IVF by Rosie Bray and Richard Mackney. Of this Zita West's book, I would save only Chapter 12: "The IVF process" (well covered also in the aforementioned "The Complete Guide to IVF").
what a fantastic book!!!!! I would recommend it to anyone at any stage of trying to convince. it is a down to earth and very well written. it covers both the man and woman, and whether. you are trying for your first, second, third or tenth baby. it explains everything in just the correct amount of detail about trying to conceive, what the tests you are having are for, various fertility treatments including ivf. it explains what happens during an ivf cycle. the book talks about some reasons why you could be struggling to convince with case studies and interviews from various specialists. as well as a whole chapter on successful cycles it talks about what if you are unsuccessful and possible reasons why this could happen although it sometimes can not be explained. it also goes onto other options such as egg and sperm donation, surrogacy, adoption or even living without children. even with my dyslexia I found I could read all for hundred and ninety odd pages in less than a week which is very quick for me. I just could not put the book down until I finished it. zita west was a midwife for 30 years before starting her clinic in London so with about 45 years worth of experience you can safely say that she knows her stuff.
