The second volume was a faster read than the first one.
The main protagonist still didn't grow on me, nor the woman he idolizes and longs for, but the world he moves through gets more colourful and interesting, and his 'friends' and enemies gain sharper profiles - and change not only Richius' mind on which side one should perhaps fight. The Empire, Richius' little Kingdom is part of, is not the sort one should necessarily support.
And again - at the end a cliffhanger, that leaves the reader unsatisfied and taking up the next volume.
