Sonnets, ballads, couplets, ottava rima, haiku, and unbound free verse . . . you’ll find it all in this diverse collection of poetry from the pen of Skylar Hamilton Burris. If you have ever wrestled with faith, felt the ache or joy of love, or witnessed the death of someone close to you, these poems will offer you a chance for reflection, inspiration, and solace.
Skylar Hamilton Burris is the author of five novels, including three sequels to Pride and Prejudice, a collection of poetry, and numerous essays and short stories. Driven by a love of traditional, meaningful poetry, Skylar founded Ancient Paths Literary Magazine in 1998.
I love books where the writer plays with forms. I especially like poetry books whose authors are not afraid to try the old forms as well as the new. Burris's poems are like that. Fun, experimental, and some punch you in the gut.
My favorite poem "by far" in this collection is The Wind Swept, which starts, "The wind swept gently across the fields we'd walked together...."
And ends...well, you'll have to buy the book and read it! My favorite poem is a gut puncher.
