Three short stories feature Kevin, who doesn't want a haircut, Ramon, whose friends agree that hair problems can make you scream, and Helen, who is interested in everyone's hair.
This book consists of three very short stories about hair. The first story is about a boy who has to get his hair cut, but he doesn't want to. He looks at everyone else getting their hair done, and wonders why everyone wants hair different than the hair they have. It's told from his point of view. The second story is about a girl who has different bad experiences with hair throughout her day. She wakes up with bad hair, sits next to people with too much dandruff and grease in their hair at lunch, and numerous other things involving hair happen to her throughout the day. The third story is about a girl who thinks about hair all the time. She talks about her likes and dislikes about her own hair, and she talks about all the numerous ways other people wear their hair. As a teacher, I could use these stories to teach my children that hair is just hair. All of these children have different experiences with hair, but in the end they all tie together because they realize that it's just hair. In these stories, all types of hair are recognized with their own problems. I believe all of the students in my class with all of their different hair types could relate to this story in some way. The author, Kathleen Krull is a Caucasian author, which is probably why all three stories are focused around Caucasian children, but she makes it a point to not leave any one race out. The illustrator, Paul Brewer, did a great job bringing each story to life with his drawings.
Elementary school students will like this read a loud.

An okay book about hair. First story - Kevin is scared to get a hair cut. Not bad, not good, just okay. Second story - Ramon has a bad hair day. Kinda weird. I really didn't get it. And third story was about a girl rather obsessed with hair.
